I see many people keep synos with mbuna, and watching videos of tanks with both, the mbuna seem either to ignore, or be scared of the synos. They are tough little catfish. In general cichlids don't see catfish as threat and ignore them, kind of like the way they tend to ignore barbs and stuff like that.

They appear to be S. lucipinnis, which are from Lake Tanganyika, not Lake Malawi.

BTW - the biggest issue with keeping synodontis such as lucipinnis, with mbuna, is that the mbuna will often outcompete the catfish for food, unless you feed some finer granulated food after the tank lights are out.

Might be a while, as they spend the day in the crevices. I probably won't see them much until they grow up too much to fit in the small places.
