Description:
The latest import comes from China. Here is a little background about fish from China. I've been fascinated with Chinese loaches and cyprinids for years, as they are mostly unheard of in the hobby and under appreciated. Many of the species that hail from China will sport dazzling colors, some during courtship and some throughout their lives. Fish range from small nano sized fish like Yaoshania pachychilus, rhinogobius zhoui, that are undemanding to large fish like Elopicthys bambusa that can grow to the size of an adult human!

The reason most of these fish are overlooked is because they've not been readily available. For years people have kept cichlids, and tried to find new variations and colors within the same species. People will fight for a frontosa with a bit more blue or an extra stripe, while over looking a new frontier, a plethora of species that have never been kept in the aquaria before.

Most of the fish from China can tolerate a wide range of temperatures, with their climate being similar to that of the USA. They do not require a heater for the most and can tolerate a warm summer for a few months, which may help trigger spawning.

The range of species are similar to the ones that come from South America or Africa. Loaches are to corydoras, many colorful cyprinids that easily rival all the tetras. Large predatory perches like siniperca compared to all the datnoids and cichlids. And there are a ton of strange looking catfishes that can hold the bottom, making amazing biotope displays.

If you haven't heard of some of these fish above, you should google some up and it will open up the window to the possibilities that are out there. For sure it will cure the "old tank syndrome" and winter blues!

Here is a list you can google to get some ideas of what I'm talking about. Yaoshania pachychilus, rhinogobius zhoui, leptobotia pelligrini, elongata, siniperca roulei, siniperca scherzeri, Acheilognathus tonkinensis, Homatula potanini, Silurus meriodonalis, Traccatichthys pulcher, Tor brevifilis, erromyzon compactus, macropodus occelatus, bagarius cf. yarelli "Yunan", triplophysa siluroides, Tanichthys albonubes, sarcocheilichthys parvus, and more. These are just a few for you to get started.

I've started selectively importing fish from there since 2005, and more after 2009, after visiting many of the places where these fish come from. It would be great to see some of these fish kept, bred and established in the hobby. As the rate of development in the country, pollution and commercial fishing will destroy many of these species in the long run. The list that was just imported will be posted later today with some pictures.
