Hi guys,

I was wondering if it would be acceptable to house an Oscar in a 120gal with about 5-6 Spotted Silver Dollars, and 4 or so of a Thorichthys species?

The tank dimensions are 4' x 2' x 2' and I feel as if i have more than adequate filtration... my worry is that if i went ahead with the plan above i would be asking for trouble in the long term.

not much of swimming space for territory if you get an aggressive oscar. If you havent gotten the oscar yet, the thorichthys will smaller spotted SDs or better yet smaller dithers like mollies would be best.

Sorry, should have mentioned that all i have is the tank and equipment.

Any suggestions for a mid/upper water lurker if the Oscar is out of the picture?

Yeah gt is a good alternative, Oscars get huge, 14+" and really tall and chunky.

You could do a chocolate cichlid with some silver dollars or a group of thorichthys in that tank, similar to oscars but much less aggressive and are usually fine with small fish

Personally I wouldn't do a fish that gets 12" in a 4ft tank.

Id like to keep the stocking more central and south american, so blue acara or GT are the more appealing options out of the fish mentioned to me.

Are solo salvini okay with the above stocking? i heard a horror story from a friend who bought a pair when he was new to the hobby... he thought they looked stunning so he impulse bought them... only a pleco survived the first spawn

Slavini will be aggressive in that tank size.
