I have been keeping new world cichlids continually for 15 years now and after lots of thought and a few false starts decided it's time for a change, so as of next week I will have an empty tank.
At the moment I am back to just the one tank, 76 by 28 by 24 inch high about 215 us gal.
Still not 100% sure on stock yet.
Option 1 Channa pleurophthalma group of 3 to 5.
Option 2 Hepsetus odoe with Polypterus endlicheri or delhezi.
Option 3 hoplias spp, but at the moment malabaricus and aimara are the only ones available, aimara get way to big, mala I think would need tank mates or it could be a boring tank.
Option 4 stick to what I know and get a amphilophus spp of some sort.
Any ideas and opinions welcome .

I would do option 2 and leave out the delhezi and stick with an endli. Once the odoe has put on some size then introduce a hoplias mala. Consider adding a large sleeper goby. Maybe some a smaller atf, not Goliath.

I'm a cichlid guy myself, but my votes for channa pleuro.

I always find myself keeping atleast 1 big cichlid though.

I do like polys but I would find the pike boring same with the wolf. Atleast for a main tank. I like amphs to but it sounds like you need a big sway in another direction.

I was almost set on option 1, but if a odoe and mala would work together definitely gives me something else to think about.

It can work but the odoe will have to be fully grown. Or can just do a smaller atf with a malabaricus. That’ll work as well.

There's a shop near me with three 10 inch juvis in, they look good even at that size.

pleurophthalma are quite boring when large and the sheer bulk at almost 18" is surprising. Personally I sold mine as it wasn't fair imo in the old 180g. One of the big bonuses with this species is that I found them very placid which allowed me alot of choice with tankmates.
