My black ray had this nice dark look when I first got him and now he’s this pale color. Eats good, roams around the tank actively.. only thing I can think of is the sand maybe?

Hybrid Ray's don't stay the same as they age, is no way really of knowing how they will turn out.

It's looks mostly motoro to me must be mixed with one?

If want a black Ray have to buy pure!

I get that I have a couple hybrids just don’t see how a ray could change colors like that so fast usually you’ll slowly notice a difference . He was black at the place I bought him and black for awhile in my hands. This was quick woke up one day and he was this pale and been like that for a couple weeks now. My guess was leopearl on it. It’s an import.

Hahah sorry mate didn't see the small Ray in first pic at the front, though the bigger one was the one your referring to but older!

Yeah sand and lights can affect the colouration! Sometimes stress can make them change slightly.

My hybrids seem to lighten and darken almost daily. I assume they will stabilize once they are mature just like many other rays

I agree that the hybrids do tend to change colour depending on lights etc...
But not as drastic as from black to so light that quickly
My gut feeling, as it happened to me a few weeks ago and my two bd hybrid babies were bigger than that baby, is the bigger ray maybe bullying it a bit
Not necessarily aggression but dominance....
Watch them with the lights out as well...
I could be wrong.... just keep an eye out

Light colour sand will deffo play a part if this pup has brown ray in it's genetics,

Back to bare bottom today and the black is already coming back slowly but surely.
