Is it typical for the male to be nearly 3 times as large as the female? My male is very thick, and he is also very active. He moves around the tank quite a bit, and when he rests, it's often in different places. The female on the other hand is much shorter and not nearly as thick, and is very shy, hiding in the same corner and rarely leaving that area.

Yes, females have a much smaller territory than males. The male territory is large enough to encompass several females' territories.

Could also be the male wants to breed and she isn't ready, so staying out of the way until she is.

Unfortunately I have lost my female triple red to hurricane Florence. I had a battery air pumps running, but I guess it just wasn't enough.

Any chance anyone has a few females they'd be willing to part with?
