How much does it cost to run an air pump and a fluval fx6?

The ironic thing is that when people shut down their tanks because "They cost too much" they barely notice a difference. Tell your parents to research how much your electric and water company charges for X amount of water/electricity then you find out how much water and electricity they use and tell just how much they use so they can't complain anymore.

Yeah, heating and lighting on big tanks is the big one usually, and that varies hugely depending on tank size, room conditions, etc.

My tank's running an FX5 and a CF1200. Together those use about 1/3rd or less of what the lights do. And over winter the lights use less than the heater.

Heaters are the big power hogs. But you can negate some of it by having the tanks in rooms that are normally heated in winter time, so the heaters don't have to actually heat that much.

If you ever get to the point where you have several hundred tanks then you can arrange them by temperature and put x temperature tank in 1 room and y temperature tank in the 2nd room.

My wife keeps track of numbers like this. When we added our 180 which runs an fx5 , pond pump for sump and a heater and light. It added roughly $180 per month on our power bill. Still trying to figure out how to bring this down a bit

Yeah lol, I have a 20, 29 and 10 gallon, I used to do a 10 gallon water change on both the 20 and 29 and a 2 gallon on the 10 gallon and they complained saying that it was much higher than when my 2 sisters (who have now gone to college) were living at home and they took daily showers, sometimes even 2 showers a day

Wow. This has me wondering how much my electricity bill will go up if I do upgrade my 125 to a 240-300g tank as I'm thinking.

Lucky for me, my water is included in my condo assessment. Before I knew better, I was doing 25-30% water changes once a month. Now, I've added fish and I'm doing 85% water changes twice a week on my 125 and 50-80% water changes on the 10g QT every other day.

If I ever do get this much bigger tank, I'd like to have a big autowater change or drill system going.

I ran about 1500 gallons in my fish house (about 20 tanks, ranging from 75, to 150 gal tanks) (also a 1500 gal pond in the back yard). The fish house with pond had its own separate energy bill. In the dead of winter in Wisconsin my fish room bill hovered between $350.00 and $400 per month. In summer, when I turned the heaters off, less than $200 per month.
The water bill (the actual water part (most water bills are padded with other stuff like trash, and snow removal fees etc etc) doing daily or every other day 300 to 400 gallon water changes ran under $40 per month.
