Got this fish from a friend when she was getting out of the hobby. WC from Conkel. He was doing great until I had to move him and now he has exophthalmia, but only in one eye, so I'm thinking it's from trauma. However, I don't see any damage other than that. Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate <30 and I added an Emperor 400 to the Penguin 350 that was on it and removed everything from the tank except for a small piece of driftwood. I also have been treating with salt and melafix. He's still always out in the open and still attacks the glass, but it keeps getting worse. Should I get some amoxicillin or is there something else I should be doing besides getting him back in a larger tank? I don't have any good side pictures, so I'll have to take some Monday at work. He always likes to stare straight at you and bite at you if you get close.

Aug. 29, Nov. 13, today...

I'll try that tomorrow. I might have to try a vet if that doesn't work.

Use No. 2: Treatment of streptococcosis
Oral formulations:
1. Feed 25 – 50 mg erythromycin/kg (= 11 – 23 mg/lb) of
body weight/day for 4 – 7 days in yellowtail (Kitao
et al. 1987 ). This was more successful than ampicillin
or oxytetracycline (Shiomitsu et al. 1980 ).

Getting worse. Treated with erythromycin today, so we'll see how it goes.

Did you put the erythromycin in the food or in the water as a bath?

In the water. Thinking about coating some pellets in it.

I think unless the infection spreads, hopefully that is all. It is getting worse. I did a water change today and treated the water with kanaplex. Soaked some krill in erythromycin solution also and he ate about 6 of them. Seems to still be healthy otherwise, still hanging the glass. If he makes it through, I hope to put him in a larger tank and get him a mate when he heals.

It's usually Gram positive Streptococcus but Gram negative eye infections are possible, too. If it's Aeromonas then it could be a strain resistant to kanamycin.

It might not be a bad idea to have a vet use an injectable antibiotic.
