Can anyone ID this guy? Got it as a S.freyeri off LA. At first I thought it was a felmale but after checking body shape of juvenile freyeri it doesn't look like it. I can see a little blue coming through, but still doesn't look like a freyeri. Sorry for the crappy pictures, thst were taken during feeding and the thing doesnt stop moving.

How big is it? If it's on the larger side, give it time to settle and it should get some color of its a male. It looks over fed or bloated to me.
Its about 4 inches. I was noticing the bloat as well, need to cut back on feeding. I tend to overfeed.

A few months ago I bought a 1" fish that looks very similar to yours, sold as a Freyeri. Fellow MFK's guessed the fish to be sometype of Freyeri / Aulonocara hybrid. He's now a little over 2" and beginning to color up. The noted hybrid is positioned at the top of the pic. My true Freyeri is pictured bottom left. Both are nice looking fish, but are different species.20190111_145758.jpg

Definetly looks similar, do you remeber what color the fish was when you originally got it?

Initially he only had hints of blue on his face. The body was mostly light brown, but his dorsal fin had a strong white edging.

It does not look like a pure Sciaenochromis fryeri to me.

And to echo what James said, it appears to be grossly overfed.
