The Fish Rescue And Welfare have an urgent rescue of 2x Cigar sharks believed to be Red-finned Cigar Shark (Leptobarbus rubripinna) sizes 7 and 9 inches approx.
These fish will max out usually at approx 2 feet in length but can grow up to 3 feet, so are suitable only for the very largest private aquarium or tropical pond/pool depending on what else is in there.
Overall health is very good but please note, the smaller shark is very skittish and has done some damage to the head from repeatedly ramming the glass.
They are in a tank far too small and urgently need more space.
These fish are intolerant to the accumulation of organic wastes and requires spotless water at all times in order to thrive.
They also do best if there is a high level of dissolved oxygen and a decent level of water movement in the tank so external filters, power heads, etc., should be employed in order to obtain the desired effect.
These fish are usually relatively peaceful although very small fishes are likely to be eaten.
If you have the means to keep a shoal of Cigar Sharks that's ideal, tank decor is not critical however, they need an enormous amount of open swimming space.
Food should consist of live, frozen, dry or freeze dried foods such as chopped earthworms, mysis shrimp, river prawn, Krill, blanched spinach, omnivore pellets, etc.
Be sure to fit the aquarium with a heavy, tightly-fitting cover as larger cyprinids can be quite skittish at times and usually possess a powerful jump.

An official adoption form will have to be signed by the new keeper. This is just a formality to prevent it being sold on for profit and to protect the fish
