It depends on the catfish species. I've used salt on cories and scaleless fish like a lungfish. There have been many folks in the aquaculture industry that have used salt on channel catfish. You will find an article on a clown loach owner using dissolved salt to treat for ich.

You don't need aquarium salt to treat for ich. Any pure NACL source can be used.

Like Rocksor said, it should be fine but you need to be observant and add a bit at a time and see how your fish react if you’re concerned. Just be extra careful to predissolve the salt and don’t just lob salt into the tank with your scaleless suckers
