Poorman's Monster Fish Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Big Box is my only option. PetSmart..
With all the time and effort you’re investing and you’re going to get one from PetSmart? I’d place an order for a WC Astronotus crassipinnis.

I see nothing wrong with getting an Oscar from Petsmart. In fact, I think it is refreshing to give one from there a chance at having good care (aside from the tank size, no offense). I'd imagine most O's from big box stores go to folks who may not even have cycled 10g tanks....much less folks who are actualy posting on an enthusiast forum like this.

I have a full-grown O, and man....there is nothing like em for wet pets! Good luck

Looking forward to seeing photos once you’ve brought Stump home!

I’ve just finished getting my Flowerhorn Cichlid settled in the first solo tank I’ve had, but after seeing all the love & accompanying pictures of Oscars in this thread, I am now considering adding another tank to my office with just an Oscar after seeing the very aptly named Brick & Big Boy….

Oscar's are one of the best fish for solo keeping. They have tons of character, can be moody and very emotional
Case in point she layed like this on the bottom of her tank for hours because I moved her rocks around...20180730_002414.jpg
This is on her one year birthday. I got her a giant mother Amazon Sword plant. She was terrified of it and would not swim past it to the other side for a week or more.20180606_173539.jpg
When she overcome her fear she went on a destruction rampage and started ripping the leaves of till just three were left.

I cannot get over how expressive that first picture is, she may as well be saying aloud how upset she is…great pictures!

Lesson learned, I won’t move around Sheriff’s rocks without giving proper notice!
