What is the punishment for adultery? Is the punishment typically the same for men and women?

That’s hard to believe. What if someone is in an abusive relationship? One would think that would qualify for divorce but you’re saying they’re just now considering that possibility in a bill. In other words, even that doesn’t justify a divorce currently. Am I understanding correctly?

Yes you are hearing that right. Currently there is no divorce in the Philippines. You can get an anollment, and having a cause like abuse will get it fast tracked. Also the abuser would be the one to have to pay for it.
We foreigners who have divorce in our home countries are a special case. We can go back to our home countries, get a divorce, and the Philippines will observe it.
Last I heard the Divorce bill passed the house and senate. Now waiting on president to sign it into law.
As I mentioned before you will only be able too get a divorce if you have one of the qualifications that allow the divorce. If i remember correctly they are adultery, abuse, drug addiction, homosexuality. There may be a couple more I did not remember. But, there won't be no clause divorce like in America where you merry someone and six months later divorce them and get 50% of everything they own.

Fascinating. Always interesting to learn about other countries and cultures. I wonder what overall effect those laws are having on society by forcing people to stay together and work things out versus allowing for easy access to divorces.

From what I gather, people only marry when they really mean it here. Some do fall apart later on and if they can't afford the anollment, then they just live separately and risk jail if caught committing adultery or an angry ex reports them.
Biggest problem I see here is lack of sex education around contraceptives. Lots of single mothers here. Young adults engage in unprotected sex. She gets pregnant and the man leaves cause he's not ready to responsible.

We had an earthquake today, 7.6 Here in Devao it only measured 5.0 lasted for about 36 seconds. No damage done to my rental or that I can see in my general area.
This is the second earthquake in a week for the Philippines. There was also one near Cebu city. That's about 2 hours away by plane. If I remember right it was a 6.7.

This is not my video, but is of the place where I do my grocery shopping. At the four minute mark you will see SM Marketplace, that is where I do my grocery shopping. Now get this for all my food for a month, plus stuff like cleaning supplies, person hygiene supplies for Cristine her son and me I pay about 14,000 pesos or around 250 USD. Cristine buys most of her and her sons food, fish, chicken, vegetables from the big open air market for another 8000 pesos for the month. So all in I spend about 380 USD for groceries, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene a month.

Typically we take a taxi there and back. Each way is about $2.50 USD

Hey Jex! You guys don’t have a used Subaru or something yet? What’s the car situation there?

We mainlanders forget that living in a tropical paradise usually means living on a volcanic mountain in the ocean.

Things are definitely gonna rumble from time to time.

Could be so here too. Fortunately we’re 100+ miles off the Calif coastal earthquake biz. We have felt a little jiggle at most, meanwhile the bridges in Frisco or LA are dropping. We had some little stucco cracks over the decades, but no more.
