My new Geo. Sveni group

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks mate! Given that we’re advertised as wild, and are already 3.5-4.5”, I have no idea how old these guys are. Like you, not necessarily want to breed them atm, but certainly don’t want a spawning pair to form while they’re QT’ing in a 40B 😵‍💫
That 'pair' already with some long fin extensions, also. Mine were a good bit larger than that before they were that long. And if I'm seeing right, one of the 'pair' does appear to have a bulge where you'd expect for getting ready to spawn. :WHOA:

If so, at least they seem to have picked one end of the tank, not smack in the middle like mine liked to do.

Only experience I have with sveni is that I only kept one along with 2 green sevs and a single chocolate cichlid with some smaller species SDs.
Mine grew pretty quick as I did large 80% weekly water changes. Like yours, he was a big pig!! Lol but he definitely help keep that substrate clean as I used PFS.

Good luck with yours and they look great!!

Thanks neutrino neutrino & Roger Mcfish Roger Mcfish

I wasn’t aware the fin extension length was a sign of the age of the fish. Makes sense. One of the reasons I don’t wanna necessarily put them in the big tank with the red heads is because I don’t want the thin extensions to be nipped off.

I also don’t want the other four to get smashed by a spawning pair so Ithink I’m gonna have to remove the other 4 if they spawn.

At least for me fin extensions began appearing in adolescents/sub-adults and, while I don't remember the exact timing, were definitely getting extravagant by the time pairs would form. In at least one instance the longest fins in the group at that point were on both the male and female of the dominant pair-- not saying that's a rule.

Appreciate the feedback neutrino neutrino I’ve had this group about 8 days or so. I was not expecting “spawning pressure” so soon 🤪

My old male started growing the trailers at about 3-4 inches
