    cichlid ID

Looks a lot like a female Amatitlania siquia 'Rio Cabuya'. Ordinarily they'll show bars, but when stressed their bodies can be dark, like in the photo you posted. Here is a female I have:

Let's see those Parachromis La Ceiba!

I purchased this female Parachromis "la ceiba" (now 5") from COA

    Small Cichlid With Most Personality?

I suspect that if you add more cichlids you will see some excitement, either by your Texas (annoyed by the intrusion), or by the newcomers as they establish themselves. A 55 gallon tank is on the small side for a school of silver dollars and a mature Texas, so if you add more cichlids you may...

    Amphilophus Lyonsi?

In my experience A. lyonsi do not exhibit the same level of aggression as others in the genus, and the aggressive tendencies they do have are directed mostly at conspecifics. I currently have a 5-6" male in a 210 gallon with a wide range of CAs including several P. sysnspilum, V. heterospila...

    Paratheraps breidohri

My breidohri are about 10-12cm. They show a range of colors depending on mood. Most often they are dull grey as duanes described, but when they get excited they display dark bars and one individual shows red on the belly. When the camera angle is just right the flash creates a purple...

    Salvini?

The markings are definitely those of a male. It's not unusual for male salvini to develop blue squiggles/spangles on their opercula as they mature (not that all males have them - it may depend on strain). I have male salvini that matured just like yours. Females from the same batch lack...

Thorichthys ID a few months on

Keep growing them out and see how they shape up. Could be fantastic. Good luck!

Thorichthys ID a few months on

There is a fair amount of variation in firemouths found in LFS, some beautiful, some bland. Most (if not all) come from breeding farms and are generations removed from wild stock. Unless you purchase firemouths from a specialized outlet with specific collection information (e.g., online stores...

Thorichthys ID a few months on

What Mrrobxc said. The red on young ellioti/maculipinnis tends to be more of a patch on the abdomen. It doesn't extend as much along the chin and ventral surface. Also, there is more spangling on the face (although yours have quite a bit for meeki). Below are examples:

Whats wrong with my texas cichlid?

I wouldn't stir the sand up - that just pushes all the gunk into the water column. Use a gravel siphon with a nozzle. It will suck the debris directly out of the tank. You'll know you've done enough when the siphon no longer pulls up debris from the gravel/sand. The nitrate level you have...

Whats wrong with my texas cichlid?

Cottony growths on fins are usually exacerbated by poor water quality. Do you vacuum the substrate when you do water changes? Nitrate levels can build up if the substrate becomes a repository for waste. I would hold off on dithers until your H. carpintis is back to normal. As for the type...

Whats wrong with my texas cichlid?

Do you currently do frequent water changes? If not, that could contribute to his sulking (and your comment about the power outage suggests that recent water quality may be an issue). It's amazing what frequent water changes can do for fish health and vigor. Also, you could try adding some...

    Vieja cichlid ID?

And for comparison, heterospila don't have the dark patch at the base of the tail. And this is the Lago Peten "orange" melanurus strain

    Vieja cichlid ID?

It's a blackbelt. The red in the fins is normal, as are the spots on the fins (in some strains), and many get a substantial amount of red in the head region. The two photos below are of the same fish

    Jack Dempsey color

I'm assuming you mean mysis (shrimp), not mice. Another poster assumed the latter. In any case, JDs will often show dark colors over light substrate if they are unstressed. Dark substrate promotes dark coloration because helps them blend in better, but other factors are also important...

    Please help... Internall parasite infection

Posts #12 and 13 from the OP would suggest that things are under control now, and Aquanero probably zeroed in on the issue. I don't think draining and sanitizing the tank would do anything other than stress out all the fish, the GT included. Overreactions can be as problematic as inaction.

    2 month w Chuco micropthalmus

Thanks. It's tough getting a good photo with a flash because it often washes out the spangles (like in the third pic). If I back up a little the flash is less intense and the blue really stands out. They have stunning color and it improves with age. I think mine is female but I'm not...

    2 month w Chuco micropthalmus

They look great Duanes. My Chuco has grown relatively fast, from 2.5 inches in Sept 2013 to about 8" now. It's scrappy, but most from just standing its ground with a bocourti.
