    Ompok pabo (indian wels cat)

Probably going to go that route. Just a steep price tag compared to what I paid before.

    Silurus Merdionalis thread

I had my somehow jump out of my tank. He was borderline jerky when I got to him. I'd estimate ~20 minutes or so on the floor. Put him back in and he's been thriving ever since. Very resilient species .

    Ompok pabo (indian wels cat)

I was a huge fan. I got and they were like 3". Grew them to like 7-8" then had a rouge tinfoil barb attack them. That was close to 6-7 years ago and I tried so hard to find them. About 5 years ago I had two shops order them for, but the supplier was selling ompok catfish but were really blue...

    Ompok pabo (indian wels cat)

Had a few of these about 10 years ago from Wetspot out of Portland. I've been looking for them ever since.

    Shrimp compatibility

I currently have both cherry and blue velvet shrimp and keep the tank at 72 degrees. Rainbow shiners can tolerate up to the upper 70s in water temp so it wouldn't be an issue. Unfortunately the tank is established so I can't test with ghost shrimp although that was a great idea. I still might...

    Shrimp compatibility

I think I know the answer to this but want to see if anyones done it. Has anyone kept rainbow shiners and shrimp in the same tank? My gut tells me they’ll eventually eat the shrimp.

Five Amur catfish aka Silurus asotus

Still have my one Silurus from Wes as well. Looking at yours they definitely have different eyes and look different the larger they grew. Mines pretty much stopped growing at around 18-20". I do believe it to be a Meridionalis but its tough to find a lot of info on them.

What is a chinese wels catfish?

I have one as well I bought from a reputable vendor. Same thing has happened. He came in I think at like 10" then stalled at like 16-17" after a year. Now mine seems to have a nasty temper towards tank mates. Tried moving a Jardini into the tank and it didn't last the night. Meanwhile the few...

    Wels Catfish vs Chinese Wels?

I own one of the Meridionalis from Wes. I’ve had it for I think 3-4 years now and I want to say it’s maxed out at around 16-17”. It’s to the point now I can’t even tell if it’s put any length/size on in the last year. By far my favorite fish I’ve ever kept though. Extremely aggressive as I keep...

Two pictures during a water change he was nice and lit up.

    Silurus meridionalis update

Never honestly thought it’d be an “issue”. I was worried I was going to run into a housing issue but doesn’t look that way unless a crazy growth spurt occurs.

    Silurus meridionalis update

Recent update. Nothing really new. I haven't noted and growth length wise but he seems to be packing on some weight. He's up to around 15 massivore pellets every feeding so I'd imagine that's why he's filling out a bit. Tank has been steady around 70 degrees more of the fishes native temperature...

    First Jardini

Minute I brought him home I finished sealing the lid for fear of him ju,ping. So far he's been doing well and minds his own business at the top. I've had him a touch over two weeks and have already noted visible growth on him. He's still taking both pellets and freeze dried krill.

    First Jardini

Think I got very lucky a little over a week and he’s eating Hikari Sticks. Other then that he’s in a growout with 3 dats so far no aggression and both species keep their distance.

    First Jardini

I appreciate the information. I’ve heard of the aggressiveness and am hoping I get lucky with a more docile one. Currently working on figuring out what he’s willing to take. So far no dice with carnivore, floating food sticks, frozen krill, and he’s only mouthed the Vibra bites. Next up is...

    First Jardini

Had the pleasure on Saturday of taking the trip up to Queens to visit Monster Aquarium. After seeing the stock they bring in it was a real treat. The shop isn’t the biggest but the tanks were in great shape and all fish looked nice and healthy. The variety of stock and prices were excellent as...

    Silurus meridionalis update

Another update. No noticeable growth on him as of late. He’s packed on about 2.5” since I’ve gotten him still working on thickening him up a bit. From everything I’ve gathered on this specific species I’ve heard they’re super slow growers so I’d imagine I’ll hit a growth wall somewhere soon...
