My male hen is the same way, had a near same age motoro drop some huge claspers while my hen looked like a female still. Removed the other male for about 4-5months now and still nothing.
The lighting doesn't show it well but her "king" crowning are starting to split apart nicely! the center spots are getting super bright as well.
Had the great opportunity to view these for a bit.
When these things clog it puts out microbubbles which I hate.
I've toyed around with different setups as far as what's inside and in the end I just ditched all sponges and filled it to the top with pond matrix.

Maybe just a healthy wild caught example?
Maybe being spring time has something to do with it as well, alpha male burrowing, preparing for breeding?

All of them have a bit of red in their tails, these are fairly small, biggest I would say reaches maybe 3".
They're getting situated in the tank so they've been cowarding to dark corners. Will keep trying for better pics.

There's like 4 that have the "robust" look or taller body while the others are slender and long. Also looks to have one or two with the turned down nostril/jaw.
Will try and get a better vid of the group.

Took a vid of this group earlier and it looks like there are actually two different sp. in the vid.
these were sold as "red tail 'cudas" but they look to be really slender in body shape and face/jaw looks different from the sp. falcatus as well...
you got pictures comparing the two different ones you got?
I just got a batch and there seems to be two different looking sp. but at the same time they are almost the same? if that makes sense.
I have mine with two existing hujetas and they look nice together!
Another option to the magfloats that might be a bit cheaper is to get some large rare earth magnets online and then cast them in acrylic resin found at the hobby store.
I did this to make holders for my eheim 2262 intakes instead of suction cups as well as egg tumbler holders.
Super strong...
