Uknown sudden death of entire stock

The cat is also dead. It was about 8". I also had my own Synodontis cat which was about 6". I still don't see how it could've been water conditions, considering my Delhezi Bichir was dead also. Bichirs have lungs since in nature they live in rather dirty water, and it allows them to breath air...

Uknown sudden death of entire stock

This very well could've been the cause. I can't really think if anything else that hasn't been ruled out. It sucks that the fish may have died because of something I could've prevented.

Uknown sudden death of entire stock

I don't spray anything around the house (pesticides, air fresheners, etc.) I have 7 aquariums in the same room with 2 within a few feet of this one and those have no issues. One of the main reasons for having all the rams horn snails is for them to stir up the substrate to avoid gas pockets. I...

Uknown sudden death of entire stock

Got about 1.5 inches of organic potting soil (or mix, can't remember which,) 1.5 inches of CaribSea Eco Complete all capped off with a thin layer of pool filter sand. I have a piece of Cypress driftwood with Anubias, Ludwigia Repens, Tiger lotus, jungle val and dwarf sag in the tank. A bunch of...

Uknown sudden death of entire stock

As mentioned earlier, there were no heaters in the tank at all. I remove them completely during the summer months and it hasn't gotten cold enough here yet for me to put them back in. I know about the end of tank dump, I have the Milwaukee regulator with the built in solenoid and the tank is...

Uknown sudden death of entire stock

pH at about 7, I don't test for kH. I really don't think it was high CO2 levels, the regulator is setup for about 1.5 bubbles per second and everything was alive Saturday night, 7 hours after the regulator's solenoid had already shut off. I found the fish dead in the morning before the timer...

Uknown sudden death of entire stock

Weekly 25% water changes with monthly filter cleaning. The last one had been done last Saturday or Sunday. Couldn't have been ammonia poisoning since there was no ammonia present after the water change, I didn't do anything different for the filter to cycle again, and the level the ammonia is at...

Uknown sudden death of entire stock

Thanks, I haven't been able to find anything like this online. I'm fairly certain I can rule out any water condition issues, simply because the Bichirs have lungs too, which they can use in case they are living in low quality water. Couldn't have been an electrical malfunction since the timer is...

Uknown sudden death of entire stock

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what happened to some of my favorite fish. I have a 30g established planted tank that has been running for over a year with a diy CFL light setup, diy canister filter and pressurized CO2. I had a Synodontis catfish, a Delhezi Bichir, 3 Kribensis and...

    Poorly arowana

Thanks for the advise. I guess I still have much more to learn to be able to keep a healthy aro. I'm gonna keep doing research and putting aside everything the baby ones need before I get another one. Adding higher temps to the list!

    Senegal Bichir & African Knife

I've got a 125g in the garage I got off Craig's list for them. I'm now up to 3 sens (2 are in a 20 long till I set up the big tank) since I love them so much. My first one is at about 7 inches now and the Knife is at about 6". I also have a 6" Ompock catfish and two butterfly fish in there and...

    Poorly arowana

For some reason the forum just sent me the email notification today that I had a reply to my post. Usually it's instant! Unfortunately, the Arowana died on Monday the 14th. No signs of any illness, temp was at 78, tank has been cycled for months and there was 0 ammonia and nitrites in there (I...

    Poorly arowana

Wondering if you ever found a solution for your aro as mine started doing the same last night. It's housed in my quarantine tank with a Leopard Ctenopoma since I bought the two out of the same tank at the LFS two weeks ago. I would appreciate any advise.

African Clawed frog and Sen Bichirs

Well, they've been living together peacefully for almost 2 months now. My frog is pretty laid back and the bichirs don't seem very interested in live food just yet. The giant guppy and ghost shrimp are still in there with them too!

African Clawed frog and Sen Bichirs

I have two Sen Bichirs, each about 2.5" long, tiny little babies in my quarantine tank. I also have a female African clawed frog that's about 2-3" long in the body in a 20g long living with one giant, fat guppy that for some reason the frog chose to spare! I need to get two fish from the LFS...

    Question about Magnum 350

Yeah, the problem did turn out to be air trapped in there, but it wasn't the O-ring or anything, just the air left in there when I refilled it. I just started filling the canister up, putting the top on and pouring some water in through the inlet, the tilting it a bit for the air to escape from...

    Question about Magnum 350

Thanks for the suggestions. I took it apart and didn't find anything in there. I did however happen to press down on the top of the unit and for a few seconds the noise went down considerably, but I have no idea how to make the lid stay on any tighter as all the clips are properly closed. Also...

    Question about Magnum 350

I don't think I have any air trapped in there. The majority of the noise seems to be from vibration. Part of it is probably from the impeller magnet which seems to have been slightly scratched from some sand that got in the canister.

    Question about Magnum 350

Did away with the T and both wheels seem to be turning great. Terror27, right now I don't have access to another HOB, so the 350 is all this tank is gonna get, for a little while at least.

    Question about Magnum 350

I just set-up a 50g tank today and hooked up a Magnum 350 I had gotten from another forum member on it. I have a couple of questions about it. First off, I made sure I filled up the canister as much as I could before putting the lid on, but even though I had heard Magnums are supposed to be...
