    ID please

Great pickup. For a second there, I thought that was the nicest LFS ever!...... Then I reread the post and saw that the pics are of your tank. Something tells me the fish like their new home better!

    Paraneetroplus nebliferus

I think they are like lots of riverines. You won't see many in the wild that are as large of some of those that have been tanked and on highly nutritious foods for a few years. Similar to the case as in the intermedius thread, 8-9" would be a good sized fish out of the river, but a foot long...

    Cichlasoma ornatum???

Something tells me he isn't too keen on talking to me at the moment! Haha! Did he say HE was collecting these? Or is he having one of his Columbian suppliers collect them. Some silly Gringo out in the jungles of Columbia could very easily be turned into ransom money the way things go down...

    **FREE** Monster MALE JAG Flawless

Terrific looking fish. I've been watching your posts, and that jag is one lucky SOB to be living in that setup! If I were just a little closer I'd drive up there and grab him. BEST OF LUCK!

    Cichlasoma ornatum???

Hey Bud, long time no type! Do you have any background info on these fish? I know you deal with Don regularly. Please post any information here so everyone can see it.

    What kind of texas?

    They eat Frosted Flakes too!

my jag might have Hole in the Head?

Are you sure it's HITH? Large cichlids have all sorts of sensory pores that become more visible as the fish grows larger. Check some of Aquamojo's close-up pics for an idea of what I'm talking about.

    Absolutely!

    Ornatums in 270 Gallon tank

Enjoyed the vid Mel! Nice community of fish there!

    high nitrates

How large are those fish? There is a point where a bioload is so high that there isn't enough dilution effect to moderate the nitrate production. Those are all large growing, big waste producing fish. It's only going to get harder to keep nitrates in a reasonable range as they grow. Already...

    What kind of texas?

Doesn't really make much of a difference. Carps and cyanos both look great as adults. Cyanos are probably less commonly seen nowadays.

    Midas, Progression thread

Are you saying you're not happy with how fast he's growing? He looks like one helluva fish to me!!!

    NLS available at Petco!

A friend of mine told me about that recently. I haven't been to my local store to see if they have my flavor yet though. Now it seems I can't help but go to Petco......as much as it hurts to do so!

    activated Carbon by the jar

Those always bug me because they're exposed to air and could be sucking in anything: smoke, fumes, and all sorts of stuff. I don't use HOB's any more, but when I did I made my own out of Emperor media containers and batting from the fabric store. Add a couple of rubber bands and you're done!

    raising jaguars.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but if you're asking about your group of young fish, no -- you don't have to separate them. Pairing happens better in a group. Keep them all together until they grow too large for the situation/tank. In a big enough tank, you'll be able to have a...

    Cichlasoma ornatum???

Interesting. I don't see the same thing in pantos all the time. Several pics over on Juan Miguel's site that show them without spots or the scaleless patch (though the latter is tough to see I'm sure).

    raising jaguars.

You may want to add a bunch of dither fish too. It'll take the pressure off of the jags. As the pairs try to form up, they'll get aggressive. Spread that aggression around a bit.

    Cichlasoma ornatum???

Hey MM, where did Mel get his ornatums from? He's had them a while as I remember. Back on topic, I really want the fish in question to be ornatum. I really do. Hope we can get a better picture or some other clarification. I don't think anyone intends any ill will by this thread; it's just that...

They got EVERYTHING on the most wanted list! Too bad for you, though, because I already bought them all. ;)
