What has your piranha bit through?

A green, Army-issue wool sock. I know, doesn't sound like much, right? Except for the fact that my hand and arm were in the sock at the time. Was cleaning some algae off the back of the tank, watching where my boys were at the time. They weren't "aggressive"...my worry was more about a...

    Anyone in the KC Area?

Very cool to see some other HAAS folks here. I may be coming out to the auction on Sat. Interested to see what kinds of "monsters" you guys might be keeping? I have kept piranha off and on over the years...just picked up a couple of Red/Hi-fin wolf fish for myself, and looking at some red...

    XXL Red Wolf Fish

I'd post pics of my guys, but they're only around 5" at most at this point. I think mine are Ery Ery Peru as well. No horizontal bar at all in their coloration. Just a dark brown/purplish top, cream underbelly with red highlights on the fins and coming out in the belly. I think that they're...

    Anyone in the KC Area?

Thanks Mr Pleco...been a member of HAAS for a couple of years now, and LOVE going to the auctions especially. Haven't noted too many "monster" fish kept by most of the members...but you can get a great variety of ciclids and a lot of knowledge on them from the folks around here.

    Most personable snake?

I can agree with a lot of what Zoohouse posted...that was my first thought reading the tegu suggestion as well. As far as snakes go...start with a corn snake, or a captive bred rat snake or king snake to begin with. Domestic US colubrids are "usually" comparitively easy to keep and maintain...

    Most personable snake?

And with that said...Bull/Gopher snakes have often been more "personable" a lot of times. They have a habit of raising their heads up off the cage floor to get a view of things when something moves in their environment that makes them SEEM like they're glad to see you. Hognoses normally calm...

    Most personable snake?

I've got to totally disagree with this. As a "herper" for decades, I really want to point out how this is just patently not true. Every animal has it's own characteristics and to a degree, personality. I'm not saying that any reptile really "enjoys" human companionship, but as someone...

Ever had an hyperactive wolf fish?

No insult intended at all, my question would be whether or not the tank itself is too overcrowded or too small, causing your wolf to feel stressed? I've got two red wolves in two seperate tanks right now, neither with any 'company'. One is very active, out hunting all the time. The other is a...

    red wolf fish

From what I've learned, Red Wolves are indigenous to bogs/backwaters...other wolves are more stream/river dwellers and would therefore do better with a bit of current in their environment. Red's don't appear to need it that much.

    Got a red wolf!

Based on this...a few lost scales, and frayed (not shredded?) fins should heal, and if the scars are almost unnoticeable now, they'll probably heal with time and proper care as well. I'd make sure to add a decent amount of aquarium salt to your tank...that seems to promote healing a good bit.

Where are the red tail barracudas?

I take it that they're not an online seller, and/or that you're not sharing? LOL!!! I've been trying to find them for my son's tank, but we've had ZERO LUCK trying to locate any, either with online vendors or our LFS's. :(

New tank for new found love

I get that you're wanting a bigger fish. The comments about the red wolf fish being far more active/interactive definitely seem on track to me though. I've never kept a black or common...and one of my red wolves kind of fits that description of a "log until feeding time"...but my other red...

    Got a red wolf!

I feed mine the rosy feeder fish from Petco. Mine are about that size as well. I have two, and one of them was a little beat up when I tried putting them together, but healed nicely once I seperated them.

Where are the red tail barracudas?

We've been looking for them as well, both at an LFS here that sells exotics as well as online vendors. If anyone's got a lead on where we can pick some up...post or PM!!! :)

    Anyone do this- goPro

Apologies as I didn't look at your info to realize that you were in Hong Kong. I can see where that would make it more difficult. I guess that your choice then becomes to either order a gopro and see if it works for you or not...or avoid that concern that you have and order something with...

    Anyone do this- goPro

I've seen a lot of videos where they used a gopro for snorkling/diving. Should work well.

    Anyone do this- goPro

Fat Homer, all I can suggest to you is to buy one and see how it works for you. If it doesn't work...take it back, and try another brand. Pretty much that simple. Loved the vids, Fatalxiceman. Nice to know I'm not the only one to toss his camera into the tank! :)

    Anyone do this- goPro

I've read a few spots where people have had a issues with their Gopro3s. Mine has worked pretty reliably for me so far. One time it shut down on me for no apparent reason, and the only 'consistent' issue I've had is that often the wireless hard button just does not seem to be able to shut the...
