    Aquarium that dosent require cleaning?

I drip 60 GPD in a 540 gallon freshwater tank with Argentea and a Regani in it. Light stock, chloramine filter, I change filter cartridges twice a year. Rinse filter socks every month. I don’t do water changes. It’s not “no maintenance”, but it’s pretty close.

    Question About Overflow/Sump Set-up

Not real sure, but I’m gonna guess …. The notch cut in the return line is to stop the display tank from siphoning back into the sump if the pumps go down in electrical outage. I have 2 holes drilled in my return lines for that. If not, my display would siphon real slow into my sump until...

Constant/automatic water change system - drain height considerations

I did a standpipe drain in my sump, with a 1/4 inch PVC overflow to my backyard. I just drilled a hole in the wall and ran the PVC outside. I drip 60 GPD, been doing it for years, 1/4 inch PVC is way more than adequate. I have a big enough sump that it holds all the overflow from...

    Recommendations for overflow

You're living with the consequences of "going cheap" right now, and you don't like it. But .... you're looking for a "cheap" fix to the problem because you don't want to pay for acrylic overflow boxes (too expensive). And you can't drill your tanks because they're the "cheap/petco" tanks ...

Tips for filtration set up for freshwater sump

180 gallon -- tank. For a ray? Arowana? Peacock Bass? You need a bigger tank. THEN you can start to design a sump. Your sump and tank should have redundant drains, so your tank's overflows need to accommodate 4 drains -- big ones. Your sump needs to have 2 pumps in it -- my Laguna...

    Jaguar in a community tank?

I removed a Jag from my 540 Gal. He was relentless. Vieja were no match for him. Jag thought he should have 3/4 of the tank to himself. He wasn't exactly violent, but he was flaring and chasing fish all day every day. He was in a fight with a different Vieja every 2-3 days. He had to go...

600 and 280 gallon reset: getting back to my roots

Drawing down that much water takes me a long time, too. I’ll have to just scape the tank, see how long that takes to build/rebuild, and decide from there. I kinda need to experiment. But I’m definitely gonna try it. I love the look, and I need to do something to add cover and break lines...

600 and 280 gallon reset: getting back to my roots

how do you net fish outta the tank with all those branches in there? I love the scape, too. I read the post you referenced about how to build these scapes and preserve tank floor space, using driftwood Shelfs and all. problem I run into is this. Growing out lots of fish in a big tank, the need...

    540 Gallon -- Stocking Suggestions

Hard no on the Parachromis. I just don't like 'em. I tried a Jag one time, just .... Parachromis are just not a hobby fish to my mind. BUT, the Bocourti. I like those a lot. And they're tough, too. Maybe if that grows up with a Trimac it'll be OK. And I'm thinking some A...

    540 Gallon -- Stocking Suggestions

yea. CA only. TBH, more I think about it, what I'm really thinking is what can I grow out with Trimac's? :)

    Vieja zonatus

I've tried Zonatus several times. They're super mean, they can't calm down in the tank. And I've had 3 batches of Zonatus over the years. They grow fast, so they're gonna always be the biggest fish in the tank. They're really athletic when they're little, so they don't really learn any...

    540 Gallon -- Stocking Suggestions

Central American Cichlids only. Tank is 96X44X30 inches. No rays, no pleco's -- they'll scar the acrylic. I've considered Umbee's, but I don't want to end up with a single big Male Umbee in the tank in a year or two.

    540 Gallon -- Stocking Suggestions

So, I've had these Argentea in this tank for 5 years now. (https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/threads/rc-argentea-breeding-project.674748/page-3) They never bred, just got huge. I'm looking to make a change, now. I'm tired of Vieja. What would you do? I like Trimacs a lot, I like...

    Vieja community?

I have a Melanura living in my sump right now because he wouldn’t quit fighting with other Vieja, and Amph’s. I think if you bought 2 of a species, you’d end up with more females than you’d want, and a runt here and there, and not really have what you’re after. And ... these Vieja species...

Stocking suggestions for 75 gallon with lone Sajica?

How about some clown loaches. Cool to look at, very active, totally different from the Sajica so unlikely to have aggression between them. And loaches grow so slowly, they'll stay small size for years.

    anyone kept Cincelichthys bocourti?

@duanes Do you remember who it was on MFK that had that adult Bocourti with the red/orange and blue tints around the gills. Baddest Bocourti I've ever seen. Anyways, I've had Bocourti twice. One jumped outta the tank, the other got sick. They grow very fast, eat a lot, and are very...
