Got the list... HELP me choose a (rare) puffer!

If they are Salivator, a single pair rarely works, in a 20g even heavily planted the male will destroy the female, give it a week or 2 and she will be dead. The Salivator and the Borneensis make Irrubescos look tame. A male Salivator is an impressive sight but on its own seems a little sad. Out...

    pleco + oscar

I have kept Oscars with Gibbiceps in the past, The most trouble I found was as the Gibbiceps got older they became very intolerant of an Oscar having a go. A 16" Gibbicep in a foul mood can be relentless and one I owned which was in his teens had enough one day and relentlessly chased the Oscar...

    puffer

The prblem lies in that there is a large gap in size in freshwater puffers, The mid size ones (6-8") are opportunistic piscivores like suvatti, baileyi, palembangensis and are generally inactive lieing in wait for their meal to come by. The larger target puffers like leiurus and Barbatus are...

    small puffer

It's hit and miss, Irrubesco's have been known to tolerate tankmates for a period of time and then all of a sudden turn on them and they're gone. Irrubescos are more than capable of taking out Dwarfs and in a 15 gallon you couldnt really attempt it. The general rule for Irrubescos is around 10...

    small puffer

Not really, and not in that tank, far too small to try it. It's been tried with SAP's in a bigger tank and the Dwarfs puffers tend to be fin nippers to the SAP's. I cant think of any other species of puffers that could have a decent chance of success with DP's

    Figure 8

A 15 gallon tank, with an SG of 1.005 and preferably a Ph of around 8 will make a nice home for the F8. You can use Aragonite sand, ocean rock etc to buffer the water if your Ph is less than this.

    Post your monster puffers!!!!

Through all my research I believe him to be Tetraodon Sabahensis, which is member of the same family as GSP's and Ceylons. He is currently just over 6".

    Post your monster puffers!!!!

He may not be a Fahaka, Pustulatus or Mbu but this guy is a nasty sod and I think he's still got some growing to do.

Growth rate of puffers (Fahakas and Mbus)

What size tanks are they in? Current sizes of fish?

    which puffer

    Say bye to your Barbs.

    which puffer

Targets are also aggressive and generally intolerant of conspecifics or tankmates , single specimen tanks are the way to go with them also. If you want multiple freshwater puffers get a large tank and have a school of South American Puffers, they seem to do best in groups rather than a lone...

    pufferfish

I wouldnt keep a Fahaka in a 20g at any size, i've seen stunted ones and they aint pretty and they stunt very easily. Even for a small juvenile I would want a 55g as a grow out and as soon as he hit 6" i'd move him up to a bigger tank. At most at that size a 20g would only last a month or 2 at...

    which puffer

I would not think mixing with other puffer species would work either. The smaller ones would be easy to pick off or kill and anything in similar size or slightly larger may be killed, kill the Modestus or you end up with 2 with serious injuries. In a large tank where they can establish...

    pufferfish

As others have said 125g is the recommended minimum, preferably with a tank depth of 2ft. I have seen specimens in the 16-18" region and a picture of one nearly 20". Whatever size he gets he will still appreciate the space of a 125g. If you get a juvenile, in the first year you should see a...

    which puffer

One Modestus per 20g of water, they are very active and can be extremely aggressive to each other. Shoving 3 in a 3og is asking for trouble.

    pufferfish

At adult size GSP's will require a high end brackish environment, most keepers prefer to go full marine as the addition of live rock and prtein skimmers means less water changes and also saves you on salt. They do not do well long term in freshwater, there is an article in the puffer forum...

    pufferfish

GSP's require 30 gallons each, you might get away with 2 in a 55g.

    pufferfish

    F8's reach 3", GSP's reach 6"
