Official Off Topic Discussion Thread #1

Mans best friend eh!! Our dog, on hearing the door bell, will bark like crazy, charging at the door, heckles up. The person ringing the bell must fear for their life. But when we actually answer the door the crazy arsed dog runs rings round the person, tail wagging, jumping up at them and...

    How’s the weather?

I was listening to a scientist on the radio earlier and he pretty much said what it says here.... https://news.sky.com/story/what-is-cloud-seeding-and-did-it-cause-record-rainfall-in-dubai-13117432

    How’s the weather?

It just goes to show how madly unpredictable global weather is getting when they have horrendous floods in the desert!!! Anyone seen the carnage in Dubai?

    How’s the weather?

I couldn't help but chuckle at that, "no precipitation for at least 60 min". A similar caption over here in blighty, the way we're going, would read something like, "no sunshine for at least 60 months!" Lol.

    How’s the weather?

The whole of the Phillipines looks to be an island hoppers paradise, there's literally thousands of Robinson Crusoe type islands, though I suspect a would be explorer would come across some rather sad scenes of poverty on their travels.

    How’s the weather?

Neither am I, from a long term perspective anyway. But during a holiday, just for a couple of weeks, it's pure bliss to me. We're going back to Greece in July and temps will be mid 30's nudging 40 everyday. Plenty of swimming pool and sea activity for sure, which of course helps with the temps.

    How’s the weather?

I reckon we should have an old boys outing to the Phillipines and shack up with @Jexnell for a while. That lucky bugger's got some great weather, and even bagged himself a nice lady friend too, lol.

    How’s the weather?

You're joking aren't you, if I went outside and started telling at the sky I can almost guarantee I'd get struck by lightning!! Our weather is evil at the minute.

    How’s the weather?

Too hot, too cold, or a mix of the two within the space of a few hours. Damn climate change. I'd like some "Goldilocks" weather.....just right! Lol. Everyone's going mad on my gardening forum in blighty. All we've had so far this year weather wise has been wet and miserable. Peoples gardens...

    Dumb question about sumps...

Definitely this ^^^^^ When I set up my first sump I don't recall looking at any charts, nor confusing myself trying to make sense of various peoples responses on a forum. The very basic idea is to have your drain a wider diameter than your return. Couple that with a variable speed pump and you...

Do You Give Your Fish Names?

I never name my fish, but my family do, with amusing consequences too! My big bruiser of a male RTGG was named Tinkerbell because he looked so cute when he was 2", and before I could determine gender. When I did eventually sex him, it was too late to rename him, so until the day of his death...

    How’s the weather?

Ah yes, cherry blossom, a welcome sight in the UK, as it's a sure sign spring is in the air and the previous 6 months of drabness is coming to an end. Mind you, the next 6 months are drab too, though not quite as drab, lol.

    Dumb question about sumps...

This is about as basic a video as you'll get on overhead sumps. Take the basic idea and tweak it accordingly. As with all sumps, they are highly customisable. I'm toying with the idea of building a complete new canopy for my 360 and incorporating an overhead sump in it. Just promise us one...

    Birding!

I can totally relate to that. All those young surfer dude types with their bleached blonde hair all look the same to me!!

    Birding!

Oh, here he is, our little surfer dude buddy! You do realise the peril you have placed yourself in now butting into mine and John's conversation? Lol. It's a shame about that damn pond of yours, I've heard they can be a major attraction for all types of birds. You've missed a trick there...

    Birding!

Now you're well and truly into the territory of my brother when you refer to game birds. Grouse, pheasant, partridge, oh, and the odd deer too! He's far more of a hunter than i. He goes on regular hunting trips to Scotland with a few hunting pals, it doesn't really interest me much tbh...

    Birding!

Now this I could get on board with. Setting up a hide and having those decoy birds set up to attract your tea would be much more exciting. I think my main quarry would have to be ducks if I set up a hide close to water, and if it was woodland I think big fat wood pigeons would be on the menu...

    Birding!

I'd quite happily plan a fishing trip, eagerly get my gear together and look forward to the possibility of catching a load of fish, not even big ones either, as long as I was catching I'd be in my element. But would i plan a bird watching trip, set up a hide with a view to spending a fair chunk...

    Birding!

Yes, bramblings are, or were, not sure if it's still the case, a very common bird in the UK. I used to see huge flocks of them back in the day when I took more of an interest in our feathered friends. I'm not surprised you were keen to see that solitary bird because their migratory patterns...

    Question

In a word, NO! You are overstocked as it is. That size tank is barely 100g, just right for one full grown oscar, so you're way off the sensible stocking mark. Have a serious rethink.
