    Two 36x18 stands for 125G?

I am tossing around the idea of buying a Clear for Life Acrylic 125G primarily due to the fact that it can be shipped to my door and is considerably lighter weight than a glass version. I do not have a vehicle or know anyone with a vehicle large enough to transport a 6ft tank...which is...

    Building reptile cage

I am thinking about building a custom reptile enclosure for my bearded dragon. She is quickly outgrowing her 40B and for the cost of online cages not to mention the wait time to get one I could easily purchase materials and do this myself. I am planning to build one similar to what Boamaster...

Thanks! I was in the market for a red and white but Rapps sent me pics of her so I had to get her instead, haven't seen her color morph for a long time. Dan you have a very nice lyonsi! How long did it take yours to get that size? I'm finding mine grows slower than a lot of cichlids I've kept.

Largest I have seen was maybe 13"ish years ago at a LFS; fish was very bulky and supposedly 8-10 years old. Mine isnt much shorter in length but hasnt developed the bulk yet. I do agree you should prepare for what if they do get extremely large factor; I am just skeptical because I really just...

If mine grows to that size he will certainly get the 180G he would need at that time; I honestly do not expect him to ever outgrow a 120....but if it is meant to happen then I guess Ive got some rearranging to do. Ive kept many cichlids over the years and have owned some true giants....16"...

I've never seen a domestic Jag in excess of 14", honestly I've had Oscars get larger in terms of mass than any Jag I've seen. My female Syn and Crasipinnis are similar length to my Jag but are much larger due to mass. I think he will be fine in his 75 for at least another year or two; but he has...

Width; I figure if he outgrows a 75 he will better benefit from a wider tank not to mention I have one in storage at my parents place. Tank is new but 5hrs round trip thus im procrastinating getting it till I have to upgrade.

Ive not done tankmates since he was a minnow he had large manzanita branches then and larger ones now. He is in a 75 for the moment...upgrading to a 4ft 120 when he is larger.

    Male or Female?

Could be incompatible...or a "sleeper" male. I have known folks to keep herems of Jags before and have a male that looked very female until quite large. Does not seem to be that uncommon especially if the obvious male is very dominant.

Ive tried fish with him in the past...always ended the same; he would be "fine" with it until one day I came home to the fish disemboweled with missing eyes. lol

    Opinions on female Midas housing

I don't know her history as I purchased her at adulthood; she has always been kept alone. I planned to do the tankmate thing but she has been alone for atleast a year with me and who knows how long before that. My hopes of tankmates have gone down the toilet. Which is okay; I am fine having her...

lol my Jag would kill her, and she would give him some battle wounds. I like to keep my bruisers alone so they don't look tore up all the time.

    Male or Female?

I think it is female...I am basing this on the blue on the gill plates and the fins. Females I have kept in the past looked very much like this one. In males at this size the dorsal would be more pointed and there would be less blue to the gills and more blue to the body.

    Opinions on female Midas housing

Im not worried about maintaining the water quality...gallon wise it isnt much different than her 55G which is never over 10ppm of nitrate. I run a Cascade 1000 and a Penguin 350...which would transfer with her. I also keep a bunch of floating live plants which help and do 60% weekly WCs. Im...

    Opinions on female Midas housing

I have been toying with the idea of "downgrading" my female Midas; it is a confirmed female I purchased her from Rapps at 8-9" around a year ago and she has only bulked since then length wise she is still about the same. She lives in a 55G solo...which I had planned to replace with a 90G and...

    Update on my cichlids

Thanks everyone for the kind remarks! Much appreciated :) Most folks are appalled at the stocking of my FM 50G...and honestly I wouldnt recommend it but the tank has a 405 and a Penguin 350 and is really densely planted so realistically I have trouble keeping enough nitrates in there. All the...
