link to the full basement aquarium? the one that was thousands of gallons

a few years back there was a great post about a gentleman who turned his basement into a floor to ceiling aquarium with steel beams and very very big fish. Is that still in operation? I'd love to revisit that old thread, and any new ones about it! thanks!

    The Woefully Underappreciated Sponge Filter

well, I've begun stocking my 72g bow with african cichlids, so far we have 5, and I was considering buying a new canister filter cuz I didn't think my two sponge filters would have been enough. Thanks so much for this thread because now all I'm going to do is get a low pressure high volume...

haven't been here in a while!

hello, I went to register and it showed that I already had an account, ha! I've been keeping fish since 1993, a 38 gallon tank was my first and was just shut down for the first time during the holidays. That tank had everything from the small community fishes to a breeding pair of angels and...

    ideal setup for crawdaddy

here's my setup. My cray is a cherax quad named Ruby. you could give your cray a length of pvc pipe to hide in... or a clay pot tipped on its side. I change things around in this tank; a few days ago I put a plastic rock ledge in the tank... but now today I'm going to give her a pile...

what do you keep with your cray?

my quad is now back in the 38g with nothing but rosey reds. All of the other fish are now swimming happily and safely together in the 72g. This is now the perfect setup and I look forward to spoiling my cray and admiring my fish!

pics, update of my cray, she's well!

:D thank you for the compliment! I don't mean to be smug, but I was researching on the web and figured that was her species... I think my girl looks better than any I've seen online! Her colors are just so intense! How big can I expect her to get, and how long do they usually live? Thanks!

pics, update of my cray, she's well!

thank you! I'm hoping someone can post with a positive ID on her species... is she a redclaw, or something else? She sure has changed from when I got her!!! I wonder, and worry just a bit, about how big she'll get... I may have a lobster size grabby crab on my hands? lol!

what do you keep with your cray?

We all know that crays are a risky addition to a tank, but I'd like to know what you've kept successfully with your crays! Let's get some replies and some ideas! My cray has been in my 72g bowfront, successfully for 3 months now, with a siamese shark (pangasius sutchi) and 4 beunos aires...

    Crayfish ?s

hi! my cray is pretty active during the day, that is, once food hits the tank! She comes runnin' and climbs all over everything trying to get her share. I think you're doing well with the food; I also offer my cray algae wafers, shrimp pellets, and frozen freshwater mysis as well as frozen...

    Crawfish Molted

do you have a pic? usually they just come out of the old shell and get bigger... perhaps someone grabbed his pinchers when he was still soft? If he did lose them, don't worry, he'll have them again at the next molt... what's in the tank with him? oh, and don't quote me, I'm no pro, just...

pics, update of my cray, she's well!

Here she is when I got her, a walmart special for $8. Here she is now, happily controlling the bottom of the 72g bowfront tank: Look at the change in color! I've seen blues with pretty pink accents, mine has blaze orange accents! Does anyone want to venture a guess on what...

    GIANT NORTHERN PIKE!

haha! he said it kind of freaked him out when he looked into the hole and all he saw was teeth coming up! The middle walleye, that's mine, 27", and the second walleye I ever caught. Earlier that same day I caught a walleye fingerling that was smaller than the slip bobber I was fishing with...

    GIANT NORTHERN PIKE!

hey gang, as a musky fisher-woman ;) I can tell you that the easiest way to determine if it's a musky or a northern is this... light markings on a dark body = northern dark markings on a lighter body = musky. There are so many varients of musky now... spotted, striped, spotted-striped, clear...

    tell me about peacock eels!

What frozen foods do they prefer? beefheart? mysis shrimp? Also, I'm going to be putting the crayfish into the 72g in a month or so, will that be ok with the eel? I don't need them hurting each other but the cray is currently with corys and tetras and I don't want to start losing fish.

    first molt

Well she molted for the first time in my tank, and is already out and about. It happened sometime in the wee hours of the morning. She had an antennea which was snipped off to half its length and that's almost as long as the other one again. I swear she's just a little more blue than before...

    tell me about peacock eels!

what would try to eat them? In my 72g bow I have a severum, a firemouth and a pair of "pictus" cats that are around 7" long to name the larger fish... would any try to eat a spiny eel?
