For now force feeding won’t it might make it worse, if it really gets much worse you might have to medicate some food and force feed, for the pop eye just keep doing water changes and treat the water with salt regularly
For now just keep up with the water changes and raise the tank temperature abit, also try feeding mainly spirilina based foods for the next while to promote better digestion, it’s very common for Flowerhorns to have intestinal problems
Yeah it’s alone in the tank so it’s tough to tell sometimes has the colouration of a male other times the dark markings of a female, the body shape and size is the only thing making me assume female, my last male almost grew similar to a male Flowerhorn
Very tricky with this one I find, my last male Cuban by this size had already gotten pretty chunky and the body much taller so I’m leaning more towards female
Hello again it’s been abit of time and the Cuban is about 4.5 inches now and growing well, wondering if anyone can sex the Cuban now that it’s abit bigger
I would have loved to but this was the only shortbody that survived and it if the batch, the parents weren’t the best used to eat there fry within 2-3 days of being born
Just an update he’s about 4.5 inches and beefing up everyday he’s a little over a year old now and very feisty, he lives with some blood parrots and a female convict
I would try raising the water temperature and do more water changes that might help them get going but considering there different species it might just be a waiting game
Only thing left to do is make sure you do water changes every few days and I would raise the temperature in the tank, I’ve had Flowerhorns go down this road before sometimes they recover other time it’s a never ending problem
I would stop feeding for a few days and see if it helps , and when you do start feeding again try food rich in spirilina to help digest, I’ve noticed over feeding in Flowerhorns causes Bloat very easily compared to other American cichlids
Just an update after about 5 attempts to breed with the female laying eggs and the male trying to fertilize them no fry, also in a turn of events I had to take off the female one morning I found her badly beaten and I had to remove her.
I would say if your looking for striking I’d go with a breeding pair of carpentis, here’s a pic of my old male, he was about 4-5 years old when I got rid of him and he was 8inches
He’s started eating again but still no improvement on the hump, his eyes are still sunken but seems to be abit more active, the tilting is constant but at least once a day I’ll see him tilted at some point
