    A. rivulatus challenge

Okay. THat's it. I'm fed up!!! My female GT, Leia, killed her mate, Bruce (my thumbnail pic) about a year ago... I was so despondent I stopped posting here for quite sometime... The last 6 months I have been looking for a 7" plus male GT because Leia is now at least 6.6" (and THICK)... She...

    Central American tank

He did change colour on occassion, but I don't recall it being a daily thing (nothing compared to a chocolate cichlid that I kept more recently - that thing was a bloody chameleon). When the JD's spawned the female went almost completely black. It was quite something.

    Removing algae from live plants?

I have a UV light on my tank which grows incredible amounts of hair algae on my Anubias. Every year I pull it all out, soak it for 3 minutes it a 10% bleach solution (that's 9 parts water to 1 part bleach) for 3 minutes, then toss it into a 5 gallon bucket of fresh water. Once I've dipped all...

Grow out tank questions for green terror!

HI Jordan, If it were me, I would not mix the SA cichlids (GT and Acaras) with the Africans. I would leave the Africans in the 55g, and move the GT and Acaras into the 75g. Eventually the GT may want that 75g all to itself (if it is a male).

Finally wild caught cichlids in Panama

Any updates? I hope it worked. Do you have a heater you can throw in there to raise the temps and speed up the ich's life cycle?

Geo. Tapajos "red head" real size

Tank looks good - but I think it would look better with some wood! Of course that's a personal choice thing! Also, I know I am late to the party - but I had RH's before that were easily 7+". Maybe closer to 8 or 9 - but I understand that could be the exception, rather than the rule. They...

Advise needed: ideal geophagus for a 125 gallon

I'd go with Red head Tapajos I think. I had Winemilleri in a similar sized tank before, and I ended up getting rid of them as they had to be the most boring fish I ever kept. So boring. THe Red Head Tapajos had more personality - and I can concur that they do will with Severums, Guianacara...

    Central American tank

I like the scape! It may seem bare now, but as the plants grow and the fish mature it will dill out nicely I think. Regarding the JD's... I kept JD's before and I found them incredibly shy & secretive. Almost always hiding. However, once I had a pair and they spawned it was as if a flip was...

Up and coming 125 gallon oscar tank.

If it was my tank and I was going to run either the outlet or intake along the bottom, under a sand substrate to the other end, I would probably get some aquarium safe silicone, smear it all over the plumbing and then roll it in sand (the same sand I'd be using for my substrate). That way...

    Suitable community

Those are some chunky fish! Not trying to sound rude, but occassionally it doesn't hurt to skip a meal... I've actually read that restricting feedings for a couple weeks with no water changes, follwed by a couple weeks of large, multiple water changes and regular feeding, can trigger spawning...

Finally wild caught cichlids in Panama

Say what now??? I sure hope that means the tank is kept outside! Congrats Duanes! I had never heard of that species before, but could tell straight away it was andinoacara.

+1. That looks very cool. Be interested in knowing what you're running.

Anyone keep RES turtle's with their cichlids?

I keep a False Map Turtle and Eastern Painted Turtle with my fish in a standard 135g aquarium. The turtles generally leave the fish alone. The painted turtle will chase them a bit if I don't feed him for a while. The fish and turtles do compete for food. When I feed treats, like earthworms...

    Sexing juvenile green terrors

Both look female, but at that size it's hard to say for sure.

    Green Terror....male?

Male. Don't go by dorsal fin. It's probably one of the more unreliable ways to sex a GT.

    New Andinoacara rivulatus

Nice. How big is he? Do you notice any difference between the WC and captive raised fish (personality or appearance)? I have no idea if my GT's are WC or captive raised, I would presume whichever is most common. Visually he looks pretty similar to my male GT, with the most noticeable...

    Ecuadorian "Green Terror" Group

Well, once they start, they won't stop - at least for awhile. I've heard that older fish sometimes spawn less frequently or stop altogether. Mine are in their 3rd spawn I think? A 4th is probably right around the corner. Something I've noticed: my female always initiates spawning, and...
