    New Baby Ornate Bichir

What a beautiful ornate! Please keep us posted with his growth. Is he currently by himself or with other polys in the grow-out?

    Polypterus ornatipinnis breeding thread

Of the 300-400 eggs that hatch, about how many make it to the juvenile stage? Are they cannibalistic when they are that tiny?

    The team (my polys)

They LOVE the tree house (plants up towards the top). Macaroni (the polli) probably spends 25% of her time up there.

Going down the poly worm hole…

Bichirs look great. That Barton really makes their colors pop! Where were you able to find the 55 pound tubs of garnet? Last time I tried to order some (this was a few years ago) they said I needed to order a pallet.

    My Senegal has a lump!

They do love resting on the sand. Personally, I’ve felt a lot better-and less worried-with them on the sand as opposed to gravel. As kno4te mentioned, as long as it is behaving and eating normally it is probably fine. :) Granted, I have also taken my albino sen to the vet because I thought he...

    new tiny teugs

I love the picture of one resting in the plant at the top of the tank! For being so tiny, their body condition looks pretty healthy. However, I definitely understand the concern for the smallest one. Hope they are all eating and getting along. I want them to be threegelsi instead of twogelsi.

can (2) 36in Fluval planted lights adequately light a 180g

I'm trying to find lights for my 180g tank ( 72inx24inx24). The LFS told me two 36inch Fluval 3.0 LED planted lights would provide me with "lots of plant growth" and that the lights last for years. Could someone please clarify if that's the case? I thought that I would need more than (2) 36-inch...

Supernaturals Sunset Gold sand planted tank

    1. Would capping the sand with a heavier substrate be a good or bad idea? Would that create anaerobic areas? 2. Any recommendations for lights? The tank is a standard 72x 24x24 acryllic. The top is the style that has the two squares as an opening. It has a canopy. The previous owner appeared to...

How can I help my ornate,

Props on rehoming the flagtail and pleco. I know that is not an easy thing to do. Although, I cannot speak to the medication recommendation. As @tlindsey says, clean water is key. Dimming the lights temporarily might also help with stress.

    Whats in the bag

Hello! Sorry to call you out, but your polys have brought me great joy on this forum so I couldnt resist. :p Nessie was a cool fish, however, I do understand downsizing. Speaking of downsizing, I will NEVER forget the fat teug! As far as rehoming, it is really hard with aggression. Especially...

How long have you been here?

Me: It would be cool if some of the website guests/lurkers and some people from the polypterus Facebook page started contributing content to MFK. Also me: you don't contribute much content. You need to post more fish pictures. Even if you don't know what you are talking about, pictures are...

    Whats in the bag

Weeksii are so interesting! I love that they get a rep for being shy. However, some of them are really charismatic too. Over there years, there have been some really great weeksiis on this forum. I think @DMD123 had a really active one at one point, who had the same name as the Loch Ness Monster.
