So just remove the filter cartridges but keep the filter running without them?

Hi I bought an ick treated that informs me to remove the activated carbon from my filter, does this mean to remove my filter cartridges and not run my filter at all during the treatment? I have a powerhead that provides oxygen so if I did not use my filter for a few days would this be okay?

Would you do a water change of about 25% and gradually add the salt in by doing water changes daily to help treat velvet or add it straight to your tank? Also, I have a pleco so half doses of the intended amount right?

My oscar is starting to itch too I'm really afraid this is the begging of ich or velvet.. what's the next step I should take? If you're suggesting a chemical treatment or salt treatment could you give directions in detail, I don't want to harm my fish :(
