    Insulating PVC running through crawlspace

It seems like best choice for insulating pipes would be pipe insulation. Comes in a selection of sizes and I expect any hardware store would have it. Though It does seem to be pool noodles at 4 times the price.

    Killer Pothos!

They're not like "Your cat will die if he licks it" toxic they're more like "Your cat will get a sore mouth and nauseous if he eats a bunch of leaves in a single sitting" toxic.

Rocks and Fossils: Does Anyone Else Collect Them?

I wouldn't say I collect, but I've got a bunch of crystals, mostly Tiger's Eye. Wife makes fun of me because if we go to a crystal shop I go straight to the tiger's eye.

    Heaters in the overflow?

I tried mine in the overflow, it worked fine. If the power goes out the water level dropped an inch or two, but it would have taken weeks for evaporation to drop the water enough to care. Only issue I had was that there was enough turbulence and current it made the heaters rattle around. And...

    Giant redwoods UK!!

We have a lot of california redwoods here in NZ too. Was apparently a bunch of forestry blocks around the country planted with them 100-200 years ago. But it was found that they grow too fast in NZ compared to California so end up being much softer wood. No good for construction.

How much GPH do i need?

There is no "Correct" really. And depends on your exact setup, what is in the sump, how the sump is set up. If it's a full siphon setup 1.5" piping can handle somewhere in the region of 2000gph. If it's not, more in the 1300gph range. So, I'd probably aim for a pump that will produce...

    Is a wave maker necessary?

Used to be opposite sides one higher one lower, but with the current tank the wires aren't long enough. :grinyes: So, both near the top, one pointed a little up the other one down. They have a light sensor that switches them off when it's dark.

    Is a wave maker necessary?

Not necessary, but it gives you a nice amount of circulation, helps with airation. And if you get the right one you can vary the current and point them in the right direction to get everything perfect. I've got a pair of 20K lph powerheads in by 440L tank.

    FX6 output too low?

Unless you're wanting to use the outlet to disturb the surface you cannot have the outlet too low.

What can I use to get rid of this staining inside of the top left corner of the aquarium?

Yeah, straight vinegar. Silicone is pretty resistant to acid, and vinegar on the scale of acids is pretty mild, you can drink it even. It won't hurt the silicone.

What can I use to get rid of this staining inside of the top left corner of the aquarium?

Have you tried vinegar? Looks like it's from hard water, an acid should dissolve it.

    High Nitrate

Straight from the nearest sink is the easiest, most you can get a fitting to connect to a hose running into the tank.

What happens to dead Beneficial Bacteria?

The actual total mass of the bacteria is probably far less than you feed daily. It would rot, produce a little ammonia and then feed the survivors, likely not even causing a blip in the ammonia levels.
