    I bought as a small red texas at about 2”....as it has grown the body shape has changed and it has grown those fin trailers.... that was making me wonder.

    Rio Mag growouts

    Good luck ...... great looking fish. My rio mag @ 6” has a lot less spotting, but, is developing some nice trailers .... always fun to speculate as they grow and change....

    rio mag & san jose umbee growout photos

    the Rio Mag is around 5", fin trailers growing and showing some color in fins, seems to be growing pretty slowly.. the San Jose has much brighter spoting in fins ( shows a lot of color in UV and direct sun ) and a pretty distinct steeper head profile .... no fin trailers Hopefully one will end...

    well still hoping ..... per your advice I one of new umbees, similar size ( shows some nice color ) in the tank with him and he immediately started flaring and then lip locked. It’s color shifted pretty dramatically, body going very dark green and some nice blue spotting in dorsal and tail...

    Is now just @ 5" and starting to show blue on lip and blue tint sometimes on the gill plates ..... can females sometimes show some blue or probably a male after all? thanks in advance...
