    Diy stand... sucks

When I did mine I just cut the foam into 3/4” strips and put them only between the trim and the stand. I used painters tape to tape them to the stand then had someone help me sit the tank right on top of them then yanked the tape off

I like the 40b simply because it can hold a ton of stuff like media etc. when i designed it (been running for about a year and a half) I wanted to use the 2nd chamber to keep a pump in for simultaneous water changes. Keeping Rift Lake Cichlids In Community Tanks

I cringe when I see 1 and 2 frontosa thrown into community tanks with SA cichlids or an over stocked tank with a bunch of malawi and Victorian cichlids.

    Cheap plants, less nitrate! POTHOS

Are they fully submerged? I dint know if it matters but I don’t put the stems in the water. Just the roots. What are your readings in the water? What’s in the tank? Any other plants?

Keeping Rift Lake Cichlids In Community Tanks

That Julie appears to be super young as well. I had a full grown one that was about 3” and it was one of the more aggressive cichlids in my lake Tang. aquarium

    Cheap plants, less nitrate! POTHOS

They need more light or a direct light source. Even if it’s only a desk lamp with a 6,500 kelvin light bulb

Just look at any of the videos on my YouTube channel. I went a little heavier on the white sand to bring out the color in my black nasties. But I’ve had heavier black mix etc

Should I do a water change when cycling new tank for fish health?

It’s pretty much expected since the fish are going to be stressed during the cycling process.
