Wow, You breed platinums and golds?!? I envy you... here in germany we don't have that much varietys of JD. In store the most of them are coloured poorly, I always pick the best coloured and strongest built ones. Thats how I found my male... I LOVE platinum jacks. They look so stunning. What...

Finally, JDs have laid Eggs again!

Hey, Your JDs are really stunning! Great colour development! I have never seen a double eye spot on these fish, seems to be rare but looks very nice. My male is from a local pet store, I bought him last year and he grew pretty good. He becomes more gorgeus the bigger he gets.

Finally, JDs have laid Eggs again!

News: The "absolute sure female" is going male... It is always close to the second female in the tank, but she does not accept him yet. The rest of the youngsters are also males, so I will give them away soon. But this one is allowed to stay, together with "his" (hopefully his) female. This is...

Finally, JDs have laid Eggs again!

Right now I am absolutely not sure about the male looking ones. The genital papilla looks more female and the sparkles on the gills don't fade... You might be right.

@D ram d if it can help you I have some pics of my mature pair´s genital papilla to show you what to look for exactly. The female, look at the thing in front of the anal fin. That is the genital papilla. In a closer look: The papilla is slightly rounded, very massive. Mostly this...

    Jack dempsey teeth?

hey, beautiful fish you have there! Congrats, JD are great fish! if it is already big enough you could try to look for the shape of the genital papilla. But it is quite tricky to figure out which gender you have there, unless it spawns. Even the males grow a bigger papilla then, and you clearly...

POST PICS OF YOUR PLANTS AND PLANTED TANKS HERE

Hey, Light is Dennerle Trocal, very strong light I have to admit. Ferts are Dennerle Nano daily fertilizer and the daily food for shrimp and fish. I don't vacuum the ground since it is fully overgrown by plants. I don't add CO2 because the tank is very small and the filter does not move the...

POST PICS OF YOUR PLANTS AND PLANTED TANKS HERE

Hi, I have updated my little shrimp- aquascape "green plateau" due to very bad green algae problems. Plants stopped growing, algae everywhere... looked super fluffy, but got worse and worse. I had to put frogbite and salvinia in there to steal the nutrients vor every algae I could find. It...

Finally, JDs have laid Eggs again!

Finally, JDs have laid Eggs again!

Hey :) Thank you, I am proud to hear my pics are looking that good :) it takes about 20 pics and much time, food and patience with the fish to have one that good... For me it has also always been this way with the biggest one being a male... but this one is too blue to be male or am I wrong? I...

Finally, JDs have laid Eggs again!

My youngsters are somehow deciding on their sexes, so here are the actual ones considering the blue areas on the gill. Two of the smaller ones I didn´t catch on a pic but they seem male to me... What would you say? Am I right with my guessing? They grow like hell so it should be clear in 2...
