    Are Dinosaur Bichirs Solitary Fish?

no studies have concluded as to whether they're solitary in the wild. however, in my limited experience, they have no problems co-habiting with a large number of their fellow polys in a reasonably sized tank (in fact, they do develop some sort of a pack hierarchy).

Converting a Poly to eat pellets

it's all about how fussy your bichir is. PB(B)s and endlicheri generally whack anything food related that touches the water. Lapradeis are a lot fussier - I've had one who went 3 months without eating anything and it still looks fat. sometimes you gotta starve em if you're really serious about...

Baby Ornate Bichir With Red Stomache

Looks like one of those pesky infections. Salt and praziquantel should do the trick.

GAL and Polypterus compatibility as tankmates

20” GAL with Polypterus ranging from 16” - 29”. Will it work? By work I mean a peaceful cohabitation with no one getting chunks taken out of them. I am aware this has been asked before but I’d like to gather this forum’s contemporary views on the same. Appreciate all responses!

    Large bichir tank questions

For sure get as big a sump as possible (as close to the main tank's dimensions as possible). Out of curiosity, @Polyaddict86 and @kno4te , why the preference for acrylic over glass? I do notice acrylic tanks are much more popular in North America whereas glass tanks are preferred in East Asia.

    300 gallon poly tank

good to know! which is why my mantra for laps now is buy big (i.e. 20" and above where possible) - you're buying time tbh

    Water changes.

wow dude.. do you do change out this amount weekly? @jaws7777

    Bichirs thrashing about a bit

This sort of behaviour is triggered by: water change - either a positive or negative reaction to it. If it's obvious uncomfortable thrashing, add more anti chlorine/chloramine. my bichirs are normally v active after a water change (sometimes it induces spawning too) hunger after a heavy meal...

    300 gallon poly tank

koloton/koliba are one of, if not the, slowest growing lap (and laps in general are notoriously slow growers). Mine grew 1" in the past 1 year.
