Is this a mating call? He definitely does it to get our attention. Any ideas about this behavior?

We have 10 viable fry in the 75 gal, moved the pair to a 40 breeder, pic follows Male is the snakeskin in front, female is a pigeon from a Fiamma Rossa line, Kurt Russell and DeeDee Bridgewater, respectively.

There are some good US breeders out there, now. I think those discus look a bit underfed. Their foreheads should be taller, they should be more rounded overall. It really depends on their hatch date, if they aren’t fed heavily in their early lives some discus never attain a good size, aka...

I have kept and bred a lot of species of reptiles so I had a leg up. I really love keeping freshwater aquarium fish, it has been very rewarding over the last year. Thank you kindly, we are doing our best with them, but are still pretty inexperienced with fish. I am absolutely in love with discus, they are an amazing little genus.

After a few tries we now have 30-40 free swimmers! I have been unable to get a decent picture, but they are doing well!

At least one can of worms has been opened already. :cool: I am a bare bottom guy, after starting with a sand and driftwood community I orefer keeping discus bare bottom. The community tank is still up, and a couple discus in it, but especially for grow out, feed heavily and wayer change often...

I would really like that. Keeping animals is most fulfilling for me when successfully breeding them, too. Putting a divider in the new tank would be pretty easy, for a female’s security. Are there any interspecies tank mates that might work? This fish is pretty timid, I don’t think he would...

He has been, and will continue to be, a solo fish. Unless I get a larger pleco specie some day, which I know is still a risk. Thanks again, having a blast here!

I have had a look, but I am bad at sexing non-salmonid fish, meaning I am new at it. You may well be right. Thank you for the kind words, we are having fun with the hobby, the gf and I. We have only kept fish for a year now. I have been breeding Apistogramma and now we have viable discus eggs...

Thanks for your input, glad to hear it. I only started keeping fish a year ago, with hopes of breeding discus from the start. I am tickled with the progress, these two seem to be showing signs of being excellent parents, I am fully geeked on it.
