    440g System Setup

Pretty wild, but a 3rd pup was born today (my daughter named her clover because it’s St. Patrick’s day). So 17 days after the other 2. I’ve never heard of babies from the same litter being born this far apart. All 3 are healthy, which is good. The one born today is the bottom right one in this...

    440g System Setup

Here’s a couple better pictures of the pups in the container at the top of the tank now. They haven't ate yet. How long does it typically take pups to start eating? I’ve offered bloodworms and they nibble on them but don’t eat them.

    440g System Setup

Just had our 2nd batch of pups this morning. So far there's 2 in the tank, I don't think there are anymore in the female. These ones are a lot darker than the 1st pup 6 months ago. Hopefully they will live longer than 24 hours with the changes I made to the filtration system.

I also want to add a note for people that have Ultimas. I do a backwash when I’m changing the water every week. But I reread the owners manual and noticed it says to perform a proper backwash, you should back was for 30 seconds, then rinse for 1 minute, then back wash for 30 seconds then rinse...

    440g System Setup

The pup only lived for about 20 hours after birth unfortunately. It looked like it was born in good health with no defects and not premature. It was the 1st pup for the mom so I wasn’t sure if that had anything to do with it. I never test my water because I do about 50-60% water change every...

    Ultima II pond filters

I have an Ultima II 2000 on my large tank. I also have a sump under the tank for redundancy, but I think It could run on just the Ultima alone. I've found that if the pump is pushing to much water through the filter, it pushes waste back into the display tank. I think that's what @pacu mom is...

    Water Deionizer that’s not RO

I run one of these 3 stage filters from BRS and us a 5 micron, 1 micron and chloramine filter (in that order) for my 450g tank. I changed the fitting out form 1/4" diameter to 1/2" diameter and it takes me about 1 hour to refill 200g of water. I'm assuming the filters aren't rated for that high...

    440g System Setup

They learned how to get the shrimp out pretty quickly, I’m to lazy to keep getting the Kong out of the tank to refill it though so it just sits in there now haha

    440g System Setup

Thank you! I was told they are BD ti crossed with SWC, so they’re kind of a mix of a fewdifferent things like most black rays in the hobby these days. Also, they just had their 1st pup yesterday which is pretty exciting, I didn’t even know the female was pregnant

    New pups to the crew

Where do you live? I've heard of people having water issues in the spring causing their fish/rays to die. Mostly due to the cities changing their water treatment process when the seasons change from winter to spring/summer. But I've also heard people having issues with farm land runoff leeching...

/\/\onster sized Canister or Sump ?

I've got both an Ultima II 2000 and a 125g sump on my tank. Wanted both for redundancy. The Ultima is amazing for water changes, as stated in a previous post. And my tank is drilled on the side, about 8" off the bottom. Perfect place for the Ultima to suck water from and I don't have an extra...

Cant get ammonia levels to drop.

Stirring up sand from the bottom of the tank can cause an ammonia spike from waste that was trapped in the sand itself. This could have happened when you transferred the sand from one tank to the other and that's my best guess for the spike in ammonia.

    New 180 Gallon tank setup

@Tj203 What are you using for a sulfur denitrator? I'm currently using an AquaMaxx calcium reactor with a Kamoer Peristaltic pump but I'm getting mixed results. I think the recirculating pump on the reactor is pushing water to fast and my ORP keeps swinging up and down between aerobic and...

    A New Cleaning Strategy

Hey RD, I've seen your posts before on using Bio-Clean but I can't find the one that specifies how much to use per gallon of water. Can you drop a link to that thread or just reply with how much to use? I want to try this out on my ray tank. Thanks!

Want to Buy Looking for 8x2x3 or similar tank

Have you talked to DB Junkie? He's located in Iowa and might have a monster tank laying around. I bought one from him a couple years ago.

    440g System Setup

I had an idea last week to use a dog Kong chewy toy to feed the ray's to give them something to do for a while. I put a piece of frozen shrimp in the Kong and a rock in the ring to sink it. 1 of the rays has been trying to get the shrimp out of the Kong for the past 10 minutes. Seems like a...

    440g System Setup

Glad I could help spark some ideas. If I did this again, I would never have went cheap on the 1st sump and would have jumped straight to the bigger sump that was designed to be a sump. I also 100% recommend the Apex system even though it's meant for saltwater, or some other monitor/controller...

    440g System Setup

No issues with the clowns and rays. The clowns are big enough that the rays don't both them (yet). Hopefully they never do bother them. But the clowns sleep in the PVC pipes and in the driftwood so the rays cant really get to them when they're sleeping.

    440g System Setup

Some minor updates to the fish room. All the fish are doing well, no casualties since I added the plecos and loaches early this summer. I also go a 200ish gallon tank that I'm going to plumb into the same system. In the picture below you can see where it's going to go in the room, I'm going to...
