they wouldn't put up with it because theyre COMMUNIST countries ruled by DICTATORS, where here in the US, we believe in freedom of speech and expression. This covers protests of any kind, by the way, as long as they aren't violent. You don't seem to think about the bigger picture behind the...

African Odoe Pike or Schomb Payara?

I have kept hydrolycus sp. of a few varieties and was hoping to keep odoes in the future. Sadly, I just don't think that they are very suitable for home aquaria at all. They (payara in particular) die off young, don't eat, or grow too large. Even if it does grow to adulthood - both species are...

African Odoe Pike or Schomb Payara?

Here's your scomb. :) Odoes are super cool fish, I just don't think they'd be very well suited to live with a big dirty oscar. Also - odoes get massive and probably shouldn't be kept at all. Theyre super active predators that like to school. Just get something from the gar characin family that...

    Just received my Discus

I must agree to disagree. It's in a fish's dna - they need adequate cover and at least some substrate on the bottom of the tank. Studies show that fish kept in tanks with natural looking decor are happier and healthier, and emit less stress pheromones than ones kept in barren tanks or tanks...

    Just received my Discus

ALSO - discus do best in biotope aquariums, and a white sand bottom, live plants, lots of driftwood and floating plants will make them show amazing color and growth. I see a lot of barebottom tanks on here, which is fine, but when a fish doesn't need one, please don't force them to live in one...

Dither fish tank mates for jack Dempsey pair?

My JD does amazing in the tank I have - 2 angelfish, african featherfin cat, brown knifefish. However, you should be really careful about your stocking. Full grown rosaline sharks seem okay? Not biotope accurate but...

    Arowana attacking another..

Youre going to need a MASSIVE tank to support these guys for their whole life. Like, over 2000 gallons. Giving a fish more room usually curbs aggression in fish that "arent" aggressive.

African Odoe Pike or Schomb Payara?

Personally, I wouldn't keep either in a tank with large cichlids. Oscars especially create large amounts of waste and Payaras and Odoes both need clean, clear, fast moving water with little to no decor to thrive. On top of that, they need a massive tank. These fish are both very large and...

    African Brown Knife Substrate

I'd be careful with the polypterus/bichir. The palmas is relatively safe, but the others get big enough to swallow the ctenopoma, akf, and hujetas completely. I'd be careful, and separate them when they get big.

What's the most grusome death one of your fish has suffered?

My prized show quality rosetail betta jumped from the 29 gallon cube into the 75 gallon predator tank while I was getting something for the water change (both tanks were open). When I came downstairs with the bucket, my hujeta gar was nice and fat, with the tail of the betta hanging out of his...

We've all purchased fish that we regret - please help me with mine!

I'm positive. The scales are too large and the eyes are bigger than those of a snakeskin; she's also more deeper bodied and has a more pointed snout. The coloring is off too - no horizontal stripe, just a few semi-visible vertical bars.

We've all purchased fish that we regret - please help me with mine!

You are absolutely right. If I can't find any new homes for her before she gets 7 inches, I'll euthanize her. It's sad, but if it needs to be done, it needs to be done. Thanks for all of your help, guys.
