twentyleagues, I think it wasn't dyed, just the lighning gave that effect :) Ok, guys, it was a long time since my last post and many things happened since then. To begin with, Arowana is dead. Funny thing, I think it was acclimated well, 'cause it died ~3-4 weeks after entered my tank. Since...

    Lighting help!!!!

About lightning: go for LEDs that are made for plants or if you don't want to spend money - go for flood lights. The main thing to look at - kelvin and lumens. For plants you want something like cool white (6000-7000K) light and enough lumens. How much lumens you need depends on plants you want...

    Hyde's aquascapes and fauna

Ok, since nobody is trying to guess, or maybe planted tanks isn't so popular part of the forum, I'll introduce it (mainly because I won't be around for a few days). Silver arowana. On the first day it tried to jump few times, but because of tight lid (mainly for calabaricus') attempts to escape...

    Changing Gravel

The filter, gravel, glass, decorations - it's everywhere where bacteria grows, the only difference is the surface - that's why you try to get as porous filter media as possible - to increase the possible surface. The surface in filter is more important only because higher amount of water goes...

    300 gallon planted tank help

First of all, for carpet plant - go DRY start and monte carlo. You won't be sorry. Lights: I'd go for LEDs with dimmable function and use a timer (socket plugin). Fertilizers: no opinion here. Gravel/Substrate: ADA Amazonia soil.

    Hyde's aquascapes and fauna

UPDATE To begin with, a little sad news. Firstly, algae was starting to be an issue, because of the high tank temperature (28 celsius and even 28,5 at times) and demanded quite a good cleaning. Also one of the bamboo shrimps died. Simply one morning the male shrimp was nowhere to be seen and...

    Hyde's aquascapes and fauna

Yes and no. At the beginning, there were all 5 trees with leaves, but after some consideration, I decided to put anubias from 2 on the right side to the ones on the left. The ones on the right will get their leaves, when LFS will get anubias :)

the tank that actually kinda maybe works

About the size - I think they are the same, but some websites even state, that bamboo shrimps are bigger.

the tank that actually kinda maybe works

Guppies would be nice, but if I were you, I would breed them in small tank since I'm pretty sure that BGK will instantly eat them. My small polly enjoys hunting guppy fry and doesn't rest till all the fry are caught. About the shrimps: I'd recommend 1 vampire and 1 bamboo - they are very similar.

    Hyde's aquascapes and fauna

Update: everybody is living happily. When eating and searching for food, calabaricus' sometimes bite each other and release after a few moments - just showing each other leadership. Polly, as always, first to the food and gets the biggest chunks. Amano shrimps as of today, all alive. Polly...

Ok, short update and a question: Since it's hot in here, tank temperature rised to 28 Celsius. What do you guys do to cool the tank down? Also - is it a problem for bichir and calabaricus' a 28 Celsius temperature? (I'm changing small portions of water and able to drop it down to 27...) Or maybe...

Thanks for the idea, I'll give it a try. Today, after small water change, a very nice thing happened: when lights turned on, very small bubbles began to form on all the plants and places where algae is most intense. As far as I know, this happens when plants photosynthesize and are healthy and...

Decisions, Decisions. Polys in a planted tank

I think Java moss won't be a problem, but the main problem - how would you attach it. In case you plan to use some kind of net around driftwood - I can't see how that can be torn apart. Also, maybe you can attach some photos or a plan how an attached piece should look like.

Decisions, Decisions. Polys in a planted tank

I'd consider senegals too, since they are smallest. Also - dry start. Believe me, you won't be disappointed. My ropes and albino senegal like to lie down on monte carlo carpet a lot, but for that I'd increase a little bit on ligthing. Make it a 4 x 30w or at least 3 x 30w. Also you can make...

    Hyde's aquascapes and fauna

A little update. Amano shrimps somehow managed to befriend poly/calabaricus' and started going wherever they want. Moreover, they even started eating bloodworms together. Probably this friendship will last till the first taste... Farm-tanks. As I said before, I have 2 ~8gal (30 litre) tanks...

    What plants would you use?

Java moss is faster growing and needs more maintenance than anubias. Moreover, usually there are a lot of debris in java moss, so unless you'll have shrimps (they are super-cleaners of all mosses) or at least small fishes. I'd go with anubias nana petite or if you want a little larger leaves -...

    Hyde's aquascapes and fauna

As promised, adding more photos: sides of the tank with huge caves (all three – both calabaricus and polypterus easily fit in each of them) and half of the view from the back (view when sitting near pc) with 2 bamboo shrimps, poly at the left side “sitting” on the mountain and amanos somewhere...

Polypterus Delhezi care (Barred Bichir) and blood parrots

1st question: My Poly senegalus loves bloodworms and instantly "attacks" them. 4th question: I'd try to avoid putting anything near that hole so they could lean on it and jump. Other than that - I doubt that they could escape, but people with more knowledge might prove otherwise.

    Hyde's aquascapes and fauna

Since the tank is viewed from all angles, I decided to add black fabric on the backside when taking photos. Will be adding more pictures a bit later. Also, as you can see, trees on the right side are missing leaves - the reason is simple as mentioned before - LFS is lacking anubias as well as...

    Hyde's aquascapes and fauna

Hello, fellow aquarists, Decided to start a thread about my tanks - all the information and updates from time to time will go here. The main one is 247.5 litres / ~65 gallons and 2 others are 30 litres / ~8 gallons each (more like a farms for predator tank) To begin with and make things a...
