    Delhezi diaries

sometimes I really thinkit just comes down to a fish just doesn't like a fish, kinda like people. did you get them all at the same time in the beginning? sometimes adding a fish it gets looked at like an interloper.

I have a rather large synodontis cat that i had to remove from my bichir tank because he was always attacking them, biting their fins and heads. I dont they they are a good combo. sorry to hear about yours.

    senegal bichir has red fins?

@Bichir24795 first I'd suggest this being its own post and not buried in someone else's so more people will see it, maybe put in the disease and health section. just quickly looking it looks like the gill flap is missing or injured thus showing the gills themselves which are red. young Bichirs...

Is my Sen bichir acting weird?

I wouldn't keep Oscars or any other highly aggressive fish with mine, but in my tank the bichirs are priority.

    removing ammonia

our tap water sounds the same. hard water, ph is always a rock solid 8 out of the tap high in phosphates. I have plans on using stored rain water to help lower the ph. right now im leaning towards seting up a temp tank for my curviceps, add the soil to the 150g and some cheap feeders to see how...

    removing ammonia

thanks @duanes I read that but I only have an API test kit. when I first put it in the bucket the ammonia was so high I wasn't to sure about adding it in. my tank is fully cycled and has been running for close to a year without any problems. it is also fairly lightly stocked. Im not sure if api...

    removing ammonia

its in buckets because of the ammonia spike lasts for weeks as the soil matures. if it was in a tank it would kill off any fish and most plants. day 1 was 8 days ago and the ammonia was off the chart, now its 4ppm. just getting ancy to get my planted tank up.

Green Algae Pearling? + Pool Filter Sand Air-Bubble Pockets

if this is left unchecked it can cause problems if you have plants especially. maybe shorten the length the lights are on and it should help. green algae likes light. BBA for me seems to occur when I have a tank with short light schedules.

Green Algae Pearling? + Pool Filter Sand Air-Bubble Pockets

blue/green algae aka cyanobacteria some people don't like it others do. kinda like blackbeard algae. phosphates are usual suspects for outbreaks.

Green Algae Pearling? + Pool Filter Sand Air-Bubble Pockets

looks like pearling to me, so nothing to worry about and your sand isn't that deep to be so concerned about methane unless you have a ton of uneaten food that's rotting but your maintenance doesn't seem like that's the case. my sand is 3-4 " in my 240g and I haven't had those issues. hopefully...

Green Algae Pearling? + Pool Filter Sand Air-Bubble Pockets

Pearling is a sign of a healthy tank. its excess oxygen from the photosynthesis process. i'd love to see my plants do it but they haven't so far. How deep is your sand?
