    Viva La Crenicichla!

I guess its time to let this cat out of the bag. I finally pulled the trigger a little over four months ago and grabbed a pair of unsexed Crenicichla zebrina. Huge risk? Yes. Worth it? Definitely! Turns out I managed to actually get a male and a female, and well, as you can see, they are...

    Looking to buy a pike

A good number of pikes can be ordered in through your LFS, but it seems to work out better to just go online and order your own. With Jags, especially one that size, you'll probably want to go with some Lugubris group pike. Johanna would work awesome, if you don't care about color sp...

Just got my 8 baby C. Cincta's in

I was talking about the tail spangles. Not the humeral blotch behind the pectoral. The spots are different in comparison. Cincta has less striations, more spots/smudges. Saxatilis group have more lines and striations. There is more than one reason I didn't buy a group though. ;) They could...

Just got my 8 baby C. Cincta's in

Not spots on the tail, spots IN the tail. Caudal fin actually has spots. Most saxatilis group pikes only have striations in the caudal fin. Would be nice to see a better picture at a larger size. The ones Wet Spot has posted pics of look more cinctaish, the pictures rob posted look more...

any thought or information on the belly crawler pike cichlid?.

Great pike, easy to find, not overly aggressive, doesn't get too large, and moderate growth rate.

    sp. sedentaria or sp. bellycrawler

Males will have no spots in the dorsal.

    What are these?

    Yup, Mike brought in jos.

    sp. sedentaria or sp. bellycrawler

Duanes ~ That looks more like a female geayi. Female belly crawlers will have red spots/markings on the side. Sometimes they come in as contaminants with belly crawlers, or maybe the belly crawlers are contaminants? :D Crenicichla geayi Crenicichla sp. 'belly crawler' Plus sp. BC is more...

My pike ate something too big

Gotta love those elastic stomachs huh? You'd be surprised what pikes can down. Don't underestimate them. . . can be an expensive lesson if you put them with the wrong fish. ;)

    Let's talk bigger pikes

Whats your tank size going to be? Give pikes enough space, they generally aren't bothersome to other fish...generally. Keeping them with other aggressive fish can boost their aggression sometimes though, so keep that in mind.

Just got my 8 baby C. Cincta's in

Cren. cincta can come out of Peru. Spots in the tail, almost never fail. ;) Judging by the aquabid auction from WetSpot, they look cincta. They are small though, really small, so give them time, and take better pictures. LoL

    C.acutirostris pair ?

Did they just eat before you took that picture? Females of pretty much all species of pikes will generally have a "beer belly", which is noticeably more robust than the males. Most species, but not all, will also have at least some sort of pinkish hue to cherry red on the abdomen as well...

    Petrochromis sp. 'Red Bulu'

Meh, the gobies never really interested me, but I've never really paid them much attention either. I'm thinking of putting my Tiger Redhook silver dollars in there as dithers, would that help?

    Petrochromis sp. 'Red Bulu'

Is that to keep the territories further apart? More open space doesn't bother me one bit. Would some type of sand dweller like Xenotilapia or the like work with them?

    Petrochromis sp. 'Red Bulu'

Hmm....I guess I'm gonna try putting them in the 300gal and hope for the best. Putting two medium sized rock piles of texas holey on each end, possibly one in the middle as well. Now just need to figure out which ones. Probably only get ten to start out with, add more later if I don't kill...

    Petrochromis sp. 'Red Bulu'

Two rock piles on each end, in the 300gal or in the 125gal? Bigger tank would be better for them yes, only problem is whichever tank they go in, the other Lake Malawi cichlids have to go in the other. I'm not sure if I can fit them all in the 125gal, but I know the Petros and Troph will fit in...

    Petrochromis sp. 'Red Bulu'

What? I didn't know Omega One made a Marine pellet. I've only seen Super Veggie and Super Color. Interesting, is it a sinking pellet? In the 125gal, if I am putting Tropheus and Petros, should I put a fair amount of rocks in there, or leave it bare? I'm seriously tempted to put them in the...
