    Awsome day!

Congrats on your new baby! My arowana loved live food when it was young, after that it didn't much care. Crickets, earthworms, and feeder guppies are all good bets for the first few months, along with a good pellet if you can get him eating it. I'd avoid mealworms at first, because young...

    30" silver Arowana Jumped today

Glad your fish made it... my 28 incher wasn't so lucky. Keep an eye out for infection, but not much else that can be done after that.

    my new silver

What a cutie! I find that crickets and earthworms tend to ellicit an immediate response- if you do earthworms (nightcrawlers would be best, don't dig up your own out of risk of pesticides!) then you're going to want to squeeze them out a bit, and hold onto them until the aro grabs them...

    THE DEAD FISH THREAD!!!!!

This thread is easier to look at once you've contributed. I still miss my Bob :( less than 9 months, and the monster dream is over. I have a 220 community tank for now, until I have settled down a bit (college)

Finally, I can talk about it. (Go overkill on weighting the top!)

Arowanas. We all know they jump. Mine was no exception. I thought my high school textbooks would be enough, but I was wrong. You only need to make the mistake once, and your fish is gone, dead, its over. Please, don't make the same mistake I did. For your own good.

Any notable differences in care between blacks and silvers?

well, without a viable method of dividing it, it makes no difference at all, as there's nothing I can do.

Any notable differences in care between blacks and silvers?

how is this any different from a full 220? The fish is alone, it can still see its surroundings, and water conditions would change at the same pace. Anyways, how would I divide a 220?

Wow. That place is gorgeous. So clean, obvious they take fantastic care of their stock!

Any notable differences in care between blacks and silvers?

Well, what would the effects of overwhelming a baby arowana be? I don't have another tank at the moment, which is one of the reasons the fish would be kept alone, I can't quarantine yet.

what? And the millions of gallons of amazon river don't?

Any notable differences in care between blacks and silvers?

I would be getting a baby black aro, no more than 5 or so inches. I raised a silver and did a very good job with him (Raised him from 3 inches) so I'm pretty familiar with aros. Are blacks more sensitive to water quality? The fish would spend at least its first 6 months as the sole resident of a...

It's time to move on... re-stocking Bob's tank.

I think I'm gonna go with a blackie and a motoro.

    Silver Arro tanks buddies

Nippy + arowanas = BAD. Keep the aro alone until it is larger than the EBJ by a lot, preferably at least double its size. Then, introduce the EBJ to the Aro's tank, DONT introduce the EBJ first. Also, please, please PLEASE cover your tank well. It's not that I don't think you will, its that my...

It's time to move on... re-stocking Bob's tank.

Yeah, I'm going to look for a little baby black arowana. I always joked that Bob had an evil twin named boB (o is a long o, pronounced "boeb".) the joke was that whatever Bob did, boB did the opposite. It is only fitting that now that Bob is gone, boB should be born :)

How BIG is Your BIGGEST MONSTER.......

Bob was 26.5 inches when he passed. Now I have 0 inches of monsters :( I didn't take a picture of his body, I didn't want to do that. I did measure him though. A pic from happier times. This is him at 22 inches.

It's time to move on... re-stocking Bob's tank.

I don't have the time to do a comm, otherwise I'd go with a black, a motoro, and a pair of oscars. I think I'll do a black for now. :babyblack

It's time to move on... re-stocking Bob's tank.

I didn't have a hard time with Bob. I raised him from 3 inches, he died because I raised such a healthy fish that he was able to knock off the 20 pounds of weight on the cover and break his neck on the other side of the room. I am more than up for the challenge of a young black arowana...

    THE DEAD FISH THREAD!!!!!

I underestimated my arowana. Bob managed to knock off the top of his tank, weights and all, and jump out. My one comfort is that he did not suffocate-he was so powerful that he hit the opposite wall (12 feet away) and broke his neck. He didn't suffer. I didn't take pictures, but he was 26...

It's time to move on... re-stocking Bob's tank.

As much as I loved Bob, it's time for me to get a new fish. Bob lived in a 220 gallon, and did quite well in there. I was thinking of getting a baby black arowana. I adored Bob, and I have no desire to replace him with another silver, but a black arowana might be just what I need. He would...
