    bowfin

Well, that's one difference between Minnesota and Louisiana... We have a 16" minimum on bowfin, they have to be taken with legal recreational gear, are often eaten, and can't be sold with a rec. license.

    bowfin

Like fobrinkle said, it's usually not legal to sell wild native fish without a commercial license. Depending what state you're in, check the laws. Enforcement does watch these kinds of sites... I just talked to an attorney at my state's DOJ that spends the first 1.5 hrs of his work day...

    Paddlefish

Their (the Chinese and American paddlefish) closest living reletatives are sturgeons. They're still only linked at the order level, which is pretty high up on the taxanomic ladder. Most likely they had many other fishes in that order that were more like paddlefish, but have been long extinct...

    Paddlefish

Paddlefish are not sturgeons. Paddlefish are in the family Polyodontidae, and sturgeons are in the family Acipenseridae. They share the order Acipenseriformes. Thus, paddlefish and sturgeons are related, but very different fishes. Saying paddlfish are sturgeons is like saying darters are...

    Any ideas

A channel cat would eventually outgrow a 300 gallon. It would be fine for a while, but they do get big. Any type of bullhead would be fine for life. Check what the possession laws are for California, though. I know there are a lot of restrictions on what can and can't be kept there due to...

Oh Man! NJ just placed a statewide ban on the collection of small sunfish species!

My guess is that recent collections have shown a decline in abundance. If so, somebody's trying to pinpoint the reason. Generally these type of regulations don't just pop up for no reason. If they are declining, more power to them for trying to save them, but I doubt the reason for the...

definately not a Rio Grande cichlid. Definitely is an exotic cichlid. Still think it's blue tilapia.

    Need ID on Fish

It's a tilapia. Maybe blue tilapia, but I'm not expert on them. Where did you catch it?

    Minnow ID

I'm going out on a limb and saying maybe Ironcolor Shiner, Notropis chalybaeus. If you confirm it, you might want to check their status in NY, because they might be listed.

keeping rainbow trout in with cichlids

My money says the fish isn't around anymore, so the re-release probably isn't an issue at this point.

guess who i brought home with me

I thought captive fish were made by elves that built them from mud and injected them with life. Wild fish, on the other hand, are a mystery.

The feeders brought some type of nasty in.

    Help. Fish are dying.

I'd take the heater out all together. They don't need it. Maybe it's fluctuating?? Could be a number of things, but there are no sure signs from the evidence we have. Do the fish look weird? If so, can you post pics? Double check your tests kits against another at a fish shop or somewhere...

    Fresh Water Stingray

Illegal over most of the south, including Texas. As a former fish shop employee, let me give you this advice-don't go to the local stores and ask about it. It's like trying to buy pot at a head shop.

Good way to harvest baby bowfin??

If you want to actively fish for them (instead of trapping, which isn't a bad idea), I'd try jigging around debris in backwaters or pools with some stinkbait or cut or live minnows. I've never hooked little bowfin, but I've never really tried. Try rivers or creeks rather than reservoirs...

VHS outbreak in Great Lakes likely to spread.

This is another reason when we go out, we use different nets for each drainage we hit. People need to be more conscious of transporting from one system to another. It's a shame... What's the origin of this virus?

    Question of Legality

More like fertilize your belly. Hmm... That sounds kinda funny. Well, eat them, or feed them to those that will.
