My first fish...in a long time... ery ery

When there was food in the water, he was pretty active, but otherwise he was a lazy sod:) I got him online.

My first fish...in a long time... ery ery

A sad update.... My ery ery passed away today. For the last couple of days, he was breathing heavily and having trouble keeping the balance. It came out of the blue and I’m still not sure why he died... He was 10”

    Eheim 2260 more efficient pump?

Yeah. I know... Been using eheims ever since I got my first tank 35 or so years ago, never had any problems.

    Recommend me a hoplias species

Overall, it’s not a bad place to live, but certain things are crazy expensive!

    Recommend me a hoplias species

Curu it is! Here in japan we have a fairly good selection, but they also tend to be a bit on the expensive side. A 20-25cm specimen is around 300-500us$...

    Recommend me a hoplias species

Hi guys, I’m right now looking for a 6x3x2 tank and when I find one, I plan to get a species of hoplias... In the past I had a breeding pair of Malabaricus and right now I have a big fat red wolf. I have been researching a bit and while an aimara would be sweet, I don’t think a big specimen...

    Eheim 2260 more efficient pump?

I do like my two eheims, a 2260 and a 2250 The pumps still work perfectly, but they are not exactly what you’d call power efficient... So I was wondering if it would be possible to use a DC pump instead?

    Water Change Frequency

I change roughly 50-60% weekly. All of my tanks are lightly stocked, but even so, I’d ideally like to change the water twice a week, however work is always an issue...

    Predator for 29 gallon tank

I have to disagree with the size of a rainbow wolf... They commonly get to around 8" and the one I have is pushing 10" So a 29 gallon is a bit too small

    Florida Heat

I'm struggling with the heat here in Japan too Due to work, I can't use the ice bottle idea. So I bought a couple of fans to increase the evaporation rate and thus cool down the tank. Initially, I was a bit skeptical if it would work, I rigged them up around 12 hours ago and the temperature has...

    Is this true?

Fish are driven by their instincts and while it may work for a time, even a single rbp will eventually start attacking other fish.

    When is hot too hot?

Yeah, I thought about getting a chiller for each tank, but it's a bit expensive. Fans won't lower the temp all that much I know, but even a couple of degrees would help. The ice bottle trick works, but I'm not home during the day, so the effect would be brief and the temperature...

    When is hot too hot?

Summer in Japan has arrived and it's hot! And my tanks have hit 30 degrees Celsius! I'm keeping an ery ery and a baby rohm and while I'm not panicking yet, I'm wondering how high a temperature they can tolerate for a couple of months? I have made sure that there's more oxygen in the water and...

    Canister Filters??!

I'm the opposite, never had a sump and probably never will. I like the simplicity of a canister, it's pretty much plug n play, not much to go wrong. I have an eheim 2260 and a 2250 and those 2 combined have a capacity of around 30 liters, so you can stock pretty heavily. Cleaning, I find to...
