HR669 ban on importation of many animals, including fish! PETITION!

Jesse Yang, opposed to HR 669. Some of my comments from the other thread: IMO, this a completely asinine way to regulate. It reminds me of Australia, which has a similar regulatory scheme. Given that potentially harmful non-native species comprise a small percentage of total non-native...

HR 669 : CONGRESSIONAL HEARING BANNING NONNATIVE SPECIES APRIL 23, 2009 ACTION NEEDED

You're misreading the proposed statute. Those species would be statutorily exempt from regulation. The USFWS would be required to promulgate regulations listing "approved species." The determination of what species would ultimately be listed in the "approved species" list to would depend on...

    African Arowana...

IMO, an African arowana is like an arapaima that only gets to 3 feet. This impression is bolstered by the recent reclassification of the family Osteoglossidae, in which Arapaima gigas and Heterotis niloticus were removed and placed in the new family Arapaimatidae.

Need input from people who are into watches

Jerry, I don't know anything about the watch in question or the stated calibre (19.4), but judging from the fact that Longines is part of the Swatch Group that owns ETA, Uintas, and Valjoux, my guess is that the movement is based on a Uintas mechanical base movement. However, IMO, 34 mm is...

    Vehicle rant

Scraping an old blown head gasket off a dirty cylinder head isn't much fun either. :( I just pulled the engine and transaxle out of my 66 VW Karmann-Ghia convertible, swapped the axles from the old trans to a new one, and installed the new transaxle. That was pretty easy though, other than...

    Global warming, fact or fiction?

There's actually a lot more research than that. Antarctic temperature data and global CO2 concentrations calculated from proxy sources like ice boreholes have shown that current antarctic temps and CO2 concentrations are the highest they have been over the past 650,000 years. Taken from the...

    Monster watches !

Since this thread was active, I've added a Hamilton Khaki Field Chronograph to my collection. It comes w/ the Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph movement. At 42 mm diameter (not including crown), it qualifies as a "monster" watch. Plus, the damn thing weighs close to a 1/2 pound.

Why Are Stingrays Illegal In California?

The statutory authority for the California Department of Fish and Game to regulate importation, transportation, and possession of restricted animals has been around since 1957, but I don't know when FW stingrays were added to the Fish and Game Commission's regulations. My guess is that they've...

Why Are Stingrays Illegal In California?

FW stingrays of the family Potamotrygonidae are listed in the California Fish and Game Commission Regulations (14 California Code of Regulations 671) as "detrimental animals" (D). Species given the "D" designation are listed because "they pose a threat to native wildlife, the agriculture...
