    Any plywood aquarium failures?

Mine was 96x48x29 inches. It lasted 5 years without a single leak. I sold my house and dismantled the tank. Was thinking about getting it going again. It was 2x4/2x6 wood framed, 3/4 plywood, fiberglass/epoxy, and silicone to fill in the segments. If you put in time and quality it should last...

    front tank mate ideas

The problem with getting little Fronts is that they grow incredibly slow. But the best thing with Fronts is getting at least 3, 1 male and 2 females. If you were closer to Watertown, NY I would give a 13" and 7" Moba. I think it is 13" haven't pulled him out to measure though. I also have some...

How can you tell if the watts are low, moderate, high or very high?

Actinic is 420nm or 460nm wavelength. It is used for photosynthetic corals or inverts that use the sun to process certain minerals. If you find that your corals are photosynthetic then it is best to augment lighting with actinic. You can get away without actinic if your bulbs have a high enough...

    Cyanobacteria....getting rid of it

Different strains of cyano love nitrates, iron, and phosphates. Check the levels of each in your aquarium and you will see what needs to be eliminated. If you can reduce these then the cyano should go away. Otherwise the only way to limit it is to do small dosing with antibiotics/copper and...

    $400 for 3/4 glass

3 foot is good at 3/4. 400 for that size sheet and thickness might be a good deal in your general area but you can also check different places farther away. I would actually shell out more than that in my local area but can get a deal for less about 70 miles away. I have no idea where rancho...

How can you tell if the watts are low, moderate, high or very high?

With low medium and high lighting you do not care about watts. You care about PAR. You need a PAR meter. The top of your rocks should be about 600-700 PAR (general accepted range is 200-700 PAR). The bottom of the tank, depending on the tank depth should be around 200. Low lighting is around...

    ro/di needed for sharks?

I agree with Zoodiver. If your city water is chemical, metal free, then use it. The main use of RO/DI is for the benefit of Corals which are far less tolerant to phosphates, nitrates, chemicals, and metals.

What type of Heron? If I had to choose between a protected, endangered bird or a fancy goldfish, I would choose the Heron.

Tiny worms swimming in my SA tank!!!

I agree with the above comments, clean the gravel well and any nooks that can collect waste. If you don't have any scaleless fish you can treat with a copper med. Aquari-sol is not too bad and will kill them. Remove the carbon before you copper.

What else could i add to my CA/African tank?

If you don't want an over aggravated female then 3 or 4 on the Blue Haps. Your Haps could get aggressive if they plan on spawning. I would only get a male Blue. Livingstonii and Venustus shouldn't be a problem if you have enough square footage and other africans to keep their attention. From my...

What else could i add to my CA/African tank?

I like the Blue Hap and Venustus. Nice colors on the males with a decent size to them. There shouldn't be any problems with the aggression in the Blue Hap. The Venustus can show conspecific aggression to other males.

    My 1500gal plywood build (pics)

Yeah, the higher the water is above the drain, the more pressure that will be exerted on the pipe. It defeated the purpose of surface skimming the display tank so I had to restrict the output so I could get the surface skimming. I then downgraded to a quiet one 9000 and it worked as I wanted...

    Are blood parrots underrated?

I have two. One is deformed and the other is not deformed; If you can actually say that. The one without the deformed gill plate and mouth is actually quite large. It is thicker, taller and almost as long as my Red Devil. I think mine were sold as king kong BPs.
