    How to resolve fighting frontosa?

Frontosas need space and numbers, they live and hunt in colonies in the wild, yet they are kept in pairs, trios or singles. Minimum requirements for a frontosa colony would be 180gal tank and 6-12 individuals (2/3 males rest females). And yes, preferably one should keep different variants...

    Can anyone identify these?

#2 spot on the Gallireya, had a breeding group, very nice fish.

Even if you have females, I would strongly disagree to hybridization. For me makes more sense to get more Kigomas, or Burundis, and to avoid hybrids ...that's if you plan to breed them anyway. Vent your Burundis and check to see if they are all males or not.

    shame on me....tank id

Agreed, Metriaclima Estherae hybrids (with Labidochromis Caeruleus, Pseudotropheus Saulosi, or other yellow based Mbuna)

Hehe, sorry for playing the Devil's Advocate, but I still miss my Kigoma colony. Gave up on it because I had not enough space for them, 20 juvies growing out, sold them before I got my 400 gal. Kigomas are still some of my favorite fronts, to be honest, if I'd be allowed to put tanks everywhere...

    Johanni or maingano?

Tank size? These Mbunas, like most, thrive in medium/large colonies. I prefer minimum 6-12 per breeding group.

Sciaenochromis Ahli/Fryeri female. The labs looks poor quality, post some more pics to see if it's a hybrid or not.

He's only gotten that much left into him to be a good spawn. 12", perfect stripes, long fins and good color. I know you like the other ones, but I wouldn't think twice. Burundis are pretty common, a Kigoma that nice is not. Take advantage and make him a happy boy.

Totally understandable, but then again, you are wasting that male's potential, right?

    Johanni or maingano?

    Maingano (Scientific Melanochromis Cyaneorhabdos)
  14. M

    Fossochromis Rosturus

Sorry for the loss, that's a nice size indeed.

#1 is not Aulonocara sp. ...that would imply the fish is waiting to be described, which is not true. It is a Hybrid: Aulonocara x Metricalima Estherae. It comes in many names: Dragonblood, Fire fish etc. So Peacock hybrid it is. #2 spot on #3 Cyphotilapia Frontosa Burundi #4 and #5 Hybrid...

Then make him a happy boy, get him half a dozen females and he'll be forever grateful :naughty:

    Johanni or Maingano?

Melanochromis Cyaneorhabdos is the scientific name of Maingano, and that it is. ;)

I think you should get rid of all the frontosas but the Kigoma male (the 7 stripes one) and get yourself a few more females for him.

    Haplochromis ID

I have to disagree. There are no Nimbocromis species with the horizontal stripes on them. All Nimbochromis present blotched patterns. The fish over here is a T. Macrostoma. http://www.malawi-dream.info/Tyrannochromis_macrostoma.htm Check out min 1.56 KM117EBVcns
