Very nice, I just saw some of those looking at a live bearer list. They seem really cool, where did you find them?

Need a quick answer about lighting

Really seems too cheap to me. I spent $150 on retro Tek2 2x54watts kit and bulbs. I could have bought 10 of these instead. If they work so well, I think every one should use them just for cost alone, 90% off lighting is great. Might work well to view fish, but growing plants I dunno. I...

    yes no?

Like schaadrak said the algae may kill your plants. If the algae covers the swords, they wont be able to get the light that they need, and obviously then die. They can reduce nitrates, depending on your bioload though, it may not be very noticable if it is that high.

    Substrate?

High Cation Exchange Capacity(CEC) clays work, those Profile, Turface, Soilmaster, and I just bought some Special Kitty, unscented cat litter today at wal mart. Moves nutrients well and they are light weight particles, so that the roots cant expand easier. And the price is one of the cheaper...

    Ground cover, fast and hardy

Well kelvin rating is the color rating, if you mean kelvin rated bulbs well yes they vary because of peaks. Most people I dont think want to take the time to understand everything. Like I was saying even for myself, I did what I felt was sufficient research, even though I know there is a lot...

Politically Incorrect - What are some things the Monsters Ate?

My pacu back in the day used to eat Corn Pops and Pizza. Guess not that unusual since they eat anything.

    Ground cover, fast and hardy

Well, I just gave the Kelvin rating as the simple way. If you are going to buy bulbs of these ratings they should work with plants. Kelvin also, again roughly, is the color temperature, the way it looks. Lower ratings appear reddish and the ones I listed for you 5500k to 10000k go from white...

    What is a gold saum?

There isnt exactly an easy answer for this... What is called green terrors that you see in most pet shops and chain stores especially are 'gold saum'. Apparantly they are misnamed because the fish originally named green terror is a whole nother fish. Make any sense? I am also trying to...

Well then it is just preference, those should all be able to handle themselves. At least when the Dovii arent spawning. If they are, then again the tank would have to be huge.

    Green Terror Male / Female.

Looks like a GT to me, if I had to guess at this point I would say male cause the fins come to a point. I just looked at the place I bought mine from and all the little ones were rounded, but then again different parents. Is he missing the hard spines up front of the dorsal fin?

    stocking advice

All of those should do fine, just make sure your tank qualifies as a MONSTER! I would say like 500 at least for when they are full grown.

    Ground cover, fast and hardy

There are better substrates for growing plants than sand, such as fluorite, eco complete, ada aquasoil, those are some popular ones as they provide roots with nutrients. Dont get me wrong it can work with sand, just these seem to provide an edge. You can also put plant fertilizer tabs in the...

    How long can pots last?

These plants wouldnt get spiral roots though, but they may become very hard to remove if you are gonna leave them for a long time. The roots will grow outside that pot and basically encase the net pot in roots. You wont be able to get it off without chopping of at least some of the roots...

Oops, and the main point being then, is you get your black and grey and no need for the clay.

    terra cotta clay

If you are looking for a black and grey mix. I would go with black fluorite and one of the Turface Pro League/Soilmaster Select of course the grey versions. Turface is probably the easier to find, I hear that the other may be discontinued. Fluorite will contain all the goodies for the plants...
