Well still waiting on the blue to breed but I have a gold and a blue gene that breed. So at least the conditions are correct. This tank is immediately above the blue and his lady.

I am assuming it's a Male I gave him a gold and wild female both smaller than him to try to see if "he" likes either of them.

EBJD x Platinum Jack Dempsey Attempt

That's why I'm excited about the two new ones. The both look like that, nothing weird with their eyes. They are also pigs and are running the tank after only being introduced to the grow out tank about a week ago.

EBJD x Platinum Jack Dempsey Attempt

I feed cobalt flake food, a mix of frozen foods brine, mysis shrimp. I try to do their water changes as frequently as I do the water changes on my discus tanks so usually twice a week. I actually got some ebs that seam to have much more of an appetite. I'm pretty excited about these guys. I have...

EBJD x Platinum Jack Dempsey Attempt

This will be interesting, I know it's been a while since I've seen anyone try to breed a blue to another blue. Wondering if the genetic pool has grown enough to accomplish this. As a side note what size tanks are you using to breed and grow out? I've had pretty decent success breeding them in a...

    Gold jack dempsey breeding!!!

This is one of mine, he's a little light due to this being my grow out tank with no substrate. If you look for yankeejack he has a thread about breeding them.

    Gold jack dempsey breeding!!!

No cross, these are a gold variant. There are four current color morphs, wild type, blue, gold and platinum. Platinum being the expression of both recessive genes for blue and gold in one fish.

    Discus breeding project

I'm going to let them try to keep them at least a few times but if they consistently eat them I will put a screen around them.

    Discus breeding project

Breeding tubes have dropped on the blue sapphire female and the red melon female. I have been using about 50/50 ro and tap water the tap water comes in around 140 so that should put me somewhere around 70tds right now. Just trying to keep it consistent for right now and may try other options...

    Platinum Attempt

Probably shouldn't have fed them while trying to take pictures. One has a very good shape the other always looks skinny. Has the entire time I've had them. I moved them to a tank with just the two of them and an albino bristlenose pleco to try to get more size on them but for whatever reason...

    Platinum Attempt

I understand that, I have been impatiently waiting for these two platinums to grow, I think they have only put on a half inch... the golds that were babies are bigger than they are now. Exact same feeding schedule and the plats get water changes on the same schedule as the discus.

The gold pair laid last night. So much for letting everything settle in easily to the fishroom.

The red melon pair have been cleaning the cone so hopefully that means they are finally ready to do this.

The punnett square shows that you would have 25% gold.

    Platinum Attempt

Not a problem. Yes in theory you will get 100% gold gene fry, you would then need to cross them to another gold gene or a gold jack Dempsey if you were to want more gold jacks. I say in theory because in practice yankeejack has a thread where he had a gold cross with a blue and they somehow...

    Platinum Attempt

Is that everyone is setled into the fishroom the blue gene pair has decided to give it a go again.... is it obvious that this was originally planned as a discus breeding tank?
