Building My 50,000 Gallon Monster Mega Tank

I don't believe they have a long life in any aquarium. Watching them over the years at public aquariums I seldom saw that they lived more than 10 years.

Building My 50,000 Gallon Monster Mega Tank

I have not added anything new to the tank. Notable favourites that have passed on are both arapaimas (the oldest was 10 years), the wallago leerii female (24 1/2 years) and the planiceps.

Very glad you enjoyed it and I'm sure your fish will love the tank when you build it and get it off your bucket list.

Yes I used glass and GE1200 silicone. There are some excellent tanks built on this site that used acrylic.

Keeping 60cm plus Australian lungfish together

It seems from King-el's experience when they are young like yours are they can be aggressive. Dither fish might help. I have put my young one that is about 68cm + in with my older one (100cm) and they are doing very well together. no aggression between them at all. The section of the tank they...

    brycon, anyone?

Oliver Lucanus (Below water in Montreal area) has had Brycon's on his recent lists. He ships to TO. I still have 15 of mine that I bought from him and Sean in 1998. I gave away about 20 of them in 2010 when I moved them from the 15 to the 52. They range from about 52cm to 71cm. My dorado is...

Inventory of Fish in 15,000 gallon tank the Mini Mega and new Pictures (Update)

Actually with the changes I made a few posts back #515 it has changed and beauty was not my object. The keep up involves mostly cleaning the floor drains as the liner continues to peel and clog them.... to bad as I liked the dark colour it provided. The aba enjoys the expanded area and the...

Building My 50,000 Gallon Monster Mega Tank

The largest aimara I've owned was 71cm at death. It was a fish I obtained in a trade rom a very good aimara keeper who had purchased it at about 43cm from Oliver Lucanus. He traded it to me at 61cm. I only had it in a 1,814 litre tank by itself. No experience with other fish. I did...

Happy Pi Day - Chance to win a free Rasberry Pi 2 computer from New Scientist.

Happy Pi Day to all fellow Pi nerds. The 14th of March, 3.14 in the US month/day date format, is the day to celebrate everyone's favourite constant, Pi – the irrational number defined by the circumference of a circle divided by its diameter. This year is even more special because, for a...

    Wallago Attu

Unfortunately both the B. Filamentosum and the Bagarus yarelli were last seen in the tank in early 2009. Both were estimated by friends swimming in the tank to be about 93cm. A Piaractus brachypomus purchased in 1989 acts as a yard stick as it is 36" / 91.6cm long. This allows very close...

    Wallago Attu

I think that the attu's slim body was the biggest problem and agree with you. The female W. leerii has no cave and I like your battle cruiser description. I always call her the Goodyear blimp the way she just floats along very innocently.

    Wallago Attu

The attu was actually only 63cm when I placed it in the 196k litre tank. It was chased by the alpha Phractocephalus hemioliopterus into the rock reefs. Never saw it again. I believe the Wallago leerii killed it. The wall she is crossing over is 30.5cm wide, 122cm high and 548cm long...

    RTC Squad of 4!

Mine established their pecking order in 2006 and its never changed. So almost no fighting. The largest is 117cm the other two are 90cm and 100cm. They will not be growing anymore so it will probably stay this way. The only fish that can but don't fight with the big Phracto are the...
