    Wayne Mah Passing

Not sure if anyone knew, but I just found out that Wayne Mah passed away about 2 years ago. Majority on this board probably have no idea who he was, but he was a legend among us piranha keepers when these forums first started 25+ years ago. He had some phenomenal specimens and contributed a lot...

    Aimara - Co Hab Project

I get that. Especially in a busy tanks it becomes a pain.

    Aquarium/Bar

Has anyone built a bar around their aquarium or embedded? My 535g sprung a leak a couple years back and I had to get rid of it. My wife wants to use that area for a bar, and I want to push a fish tank there. The deal is I can put my fish tank if we can incorporate a bar. I don't think anything...

    Aimara - Co Hab Project

@dr exum saw you sold your aimara. How come you got rid of it? At that size of about 24in they are scary specimens.

    Black Wolf

Any idea how large he is now? I am planning another tank, was thinking of another aimara, but not sure I can do that size tank again. I was thinking curupira but dont want a fish that stays small. Wouldnt mind one that gets between 24-30in.

New 225 gallon acrylic tank for the Rhom

What filtration are you going to be running on the tank?

    Cloudy yellowish water….

Did you check your water parameters? Cloudy water is often an indication of an ammonia spike or the tank going through a cycle. Hard to tell without know your parameters. Also, I would not mess with your ph via chemicals. Test the water hardness. If you have crazy soft water that can be the...

    Aimara - Co Hab Project

Just keep an eye on the guy. Skip some days, do some random 4-5 day fasting periods. My guy certainly didn’t look fat, if he did I would have cut back.

    Aimara - Co Hab Project

I grew my aimara from 3-4in to about 22-23in over a 3 year time frame. I focused heavily on massivore for a long time but at some point I was feeding about 20-25 massivore pellets a day and I wanted something simpler. I did do some fasting periods or would skip a few days. When he was larger I...

    Aimara - Co Hab Project

I am insanely jealous. I really miss my large tank and aimara. I hope at some point I can get back in the game.

Goliath tiger fish and growth rate? And are they better than vittatus?

Most keep them in 8x3 or 8x4 tanks, but they always end up dying. The large ones normally are 5+years old. Most people keeping them in smaller tanks have them a couple years before the fish kills itself when ramming the tank.

Goliath tiger fish and growth rate? And are they better than vittatus?

I am no expert but I recall many threads about how many GATF grow painfully slow but there have been multiple exceptions to the rule which has lead to the theory of variants of GATF. Majority of people cannot keep GATF long term because they eventually end up killing themselves against the tank...

    Rhom (serrasalmus Rhombeus) growth rate?

They are also extremely hardy. Piraya are the most sensitive Pygos. They are the most popular because they are the most widely available piranha in the wild I believe, and they are the only piranha that have been consistent bred in captivity.

    Rhom (serrasalmus Rhombeus) growth rate?

Almost all piranhas are extremely hardy, with manueli being the exception. The bigger issue with manueli is that they do not ship or transport well at all. It is the reason there are so few large ones in the hobby. Large ones almost always die when being shipping in SA, and many people lose...

    Rhom (serrasalmus Rhombeus) growth rate?

No idea. Manueli supposedly get larger than rhoms. There have been 17-18in rhom specimens in captivity that were wild caught at that size. There have always been rumors of manueli 20in+ but considering they never survive importing at larger sizes, it is impossible to verify.

    Aimara - Co Hab Project

Your setup makes me miss mine. I ended up selling my 535g tank so am really out of the hobby. I am planning to redo that entire room and then maybe I can do another tank. I just wish I could get another aimara but I know my next tank will be much smaller and could not keep an aimara.

    Rhom (serrasalmus Rhombeus) growth rate?

No idea. Over the years, many people have speculated but who wants to put a small fish in a 25,000 gallon pond? How do you track it, feed it, etc and make sure it grows. There have been promising signs of folks being able to grow manuali faster than rhoms and up to ~14in I believe.

    Can I filter out chlorine?

Go to bulkreefsupply and buy the parts needed for setting up a filtration system. This is what I did for my 535g. I did 3 stage where first stage was just a sediment filter and then two stages using their filter media that removes both chlorine and chloramines. This way I could avoid using...

5 Years into fishkeeping, and adulthood.

I hear you. I go my first real tank back in July of '99. It was the summer between high school graduation and college. I still remember going to the store and getting my black piranha with my twin brother. We spent awhile trying to find a place that actually sold them instead of red bellies. We...
